Hey shooters,

I'm looking to buy my first handgun and I'm having a tough time finding what I'm looking for:

- Stainless or aluminium frame/slide (shiny)
- Match grade barrel/trigger
- front picatinny rail for mounting a light
- Chambered in .45 or .9mm

I've looked at Kimber, Para, STI but not sure which are really quality items long term. My budget is >$1000 and hopefully <$1500.

I'd like to hear some suggestions and feedback from owners of the above marques.

Many thanks for everyones time on this.

How about a Sig P226 elite stainless? Its a great pistol, very little recoil and pretty accurate. It also has quite a nice trigger. One of the nicest stock triggers I've come across outside of a 1911

Get the Sig!

I would have to agree with Ganymede. I have a Glock, Colt, Smith...but by far I love my Sig P226 Elite in Stainless (mine is chambered in 9mm). It was at the top end of your price range, but you won't be disappointed at all.

ya a 1911 with a rail can get pricy. namely the kimber.

i have one.. i know.. my credit card has been seeing a therapist ever since :p.. but it was totally worth it haha
shoots like a dream, trigger is ultra crisp and super accurate. no wiggle at all between the slide and the lower frame. night sights are a nice feature too..

ya look towards a Sig and you won't go back. I personally like the looks of the P229 Two-tone. I've tried one out in 357sig. and it was a blast. accurate and snappy. very impressed by this gun after using it. and its right in the middle of your price range

I do use that $1500 to buy two good one instead of just one bloody gun sit lonely in the safe. One STI Spartan in .45 and One shadow in 9mm, you can have both within your price limit.

This is a good idea. You will get bored very quickly with only one gun.

What about this new Remington 1911 Marty? In a classic .45acp of course.

I think a CGN dealer has them for about $650? I can't remember which one but I think this 1911 is worth a look.

You'd never buy a new car without a test drive....

Head down to your local club and introduce yourself.... you'll find lots of people willing to let you have a go at their sigs and 1911s and some old guy will have something really bizarre that you've never heard of. Bring a couple boxes of ammo to be polite though you probably won't need em. Then buy what feels right. Eventually you won't care what color it is or if anyone thinks its the cats butt. I'm right in the middle of selling a gorgeous gun right now just because I'd rather shoot a butt ugly one cuz they fit me better. The only thing you should be lookin at is the front sight anyways. :D
(... but I freakin love sigs +1 :) )

I have a smith and wesson 1911. I love it, I may be selling it when I get my custom norc finished if I like it enough. But either way I recommend it!

I had a kimber, but I like this one more...not there is anything wrong with kimbers...I am a fan of all quality 1911s!
