First Handgun Reccomendations (22LR) - M&P 22, SIG 1911 22, or Browning Buckmark

I'm an old High-Standard guy; the Buckmark is very similar in many respects. I have never fired one, but a friend of my shot both a HS and an early Buckmark; the only difference for him was he liked the feel of his HS better, accuracy and performance on both guns was above par at his range. Both super reliable.

Prophet River just posted Buckmark Campers on sale for $359.00. That's a pretty good deal.
Find a used M&P 22 and you have both close to your budget!

I was shooting a buckmark and a ruger mk 3 side by side last week. I loved the feel of the buckmark in my hand. It had slightly more recoil because its lighter or at least has less weight in the back. I didn't have a preference for either trigger. I liked the target sights on the ruger mk 3 better as well as the heavier feeling and less recoil. Some people may think the rugers look awful but I love 'em. They have a neat luger type of look and feel. I had no malfunctions with either. I've heard the mk 3's can be a pain to clean but the one button takedown on the new mk4's is pretty slick.

Whatever feels better to ya. Go to the range and ask around to try something before you buy.

I'm likely getting a mk 4 target next week and may get some different grips in the future

Love my Buckmark Sillywett

I bought my m&p 22 3 months ago I absolutely love it !!!
In the first 500 rounds I had a few failure to cycle, I cleaned it and lubed it. Super easy to disassemble, and reassemble!!
I ran probably 2000 rounds through iFlawless. I have 9 magazines for it, i run mass amounts of bulk Remington golden
Very little recoil, fun to shoot !!
At .08 cents a round when they are on sale. It doesn't get any better. In my opinion

+1 for the GSG 1911. Bought one on sale from Tenda in the spring as my first .22 pistol. Works great as a range plinker and runs well on every type of ammo I've fed it so far. I run Thunderbolt or CCI Stingers, I find the extra oomph powers the slide back where as the cheaper bulk stuff makes the slide cycling feel sloppy. Plus I'm used to shooting larger calibers so I don't mind the extra bit of recoil (it's a .22 after all...) . The slide stop shows minor signs of peening and seems to be mostly cosmetic, but since it's made of zinc alloy I can't say I'm all that surprised. No experience with the Buck Mark, but it does seem like a sturdy and durable pistol. Good luck!

Wrong! The GSG/Sig 1911 slide is made of ALUMINUM alloy. On top of it, those produced since 2014 have a STEEL insert in the slide catch slot (see pic). The frame is zinc alloy. I have a GSG 1911 equipped with a ZRTS Performance kit with nearly 2,000 shots through the pipe. Never had any problem whatsoever with any type of ammo. It can stand on its own to any Ruger/Buckmark. What I like is a FULL slide on the GSG/Sig 1911 in contrast to half-slide on the Rugers/Buckmarks. They don't look/feel like real handguns.
IMHO the best .22 pistol on the market is the Grand Power K22S (see pic) (or much more expensive K22 X-trim a Bentley among all the 22's). It is full size, has a modern synthetic/composite grip, a steel chassis (like the Sig P320), a steel FULL SIZE slide and 4 interchangeable grip inserts to fit any size/shape hand. It's a tack driver.

Thanks for the correction on the slide material. Like I said, I purchased mine this spring, but I don't believe it has the metal insert you speak of. Will have to take a closer look...

I'd asked the same questions just a few month ago and out of all the .22 handgun options I decided on:
Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Tactical.
Consider this gun before you make your final decision.
Cheers.
