Hi all,

Picked up my first handgun this afternoon; a S&W M&P 9mm (range and carry kit)

I selected this firearm after hours of reading through these forums and searching through various YouTube reviews. For the $650.00 I paid, you get a great package of accessories.

I had great service from the store that i purchased it from. The guy took the time to show me how to break it down (eventhough i can do this in my sleep after watching so many online videos). He answered all questions i had about cleaning/cleaning kits and made the first firearm purchase an easy, and inviting experience.

Just wanted to share with all of my first handgun purchase, and to say thanks for all of the info/welcomming feedback you all provide.

Cant wait to put some trigger time in on this one.

Cheers

I really liked my M&P9 except I found it a little light for my tastes. If you run out of ammo you can't really pistol whip someone with it :p

I still have my holster from my M&P9 and might again pick one up someday since they are cheap enough used.

I just handled one today. Grip was alittle small but i comes with a fuller one. The mag in the gun didnt line up right with the bottom of the grip. Looked a little off. Maybe im too critical. I thought it was a nice small pistol and the range kit helps. Just buy a belt and ammo and your set. It was nice enough i am considering one for my first pistol. The Norc 45 i looked at was nice too. I see why 1911 is popular.

For 650 bucks you can't go wrong. I had one and sold it, didn't fit my hands well. Even though I only kept mine for a short time I thought it was very well built and a good shooter. Enjoy.....

I have the m&p .40 and love it. Shoots great, even better with apex parts. I didn't find the factory trigger that bad but it's very clean and crisp with the apex parts.

welcome to pistol shooting! i bought one as "one"of three pistols for my first restricted firearms, the 9.99round mag sucks, but i am sure there is an easy enogh fix for that on this site. it is light and short, ++in my opinion, learning to be a better shot with it keeps me honed! its "buck"if you could say any 9mm has a "buck" feels nice, and if i am dialed in is certainly managable. 9mm is "cheap" to shoot as well. the multi backstraps are awsome, sorry glock guys, but i have tried to hold them in the store, several times but glock=block, very crappy ergonomics..even for "german" engineering.
but there is a reason the .45 acp 1911 is still so popular after 100 years, and i think it will always be my favorite semi....praise jmb!and pass the amo!

ur lucky i guess! there are lots of posts complaining about the mags, i can FORCE 10 in but sometimes damage the 2nd from top round. i would love to know if .40 mags will run in the 9???any one??/?

The older blued mags are great. The newer black mags suck big time. The follower bottoms out on the base. My fix was to dremel down the legs of the follower making sure I kept the same angle on the follower. Both mags now work fine. I would like to see Megar make mags for the gun using a full steel set up with a pressed dimple to restrict the mag to 10 rds.

Take Care

:agree: I have 5 of the newer matte black mags with the "9" grey follower and they all hold 9.5 rds. And if you jam in 10, there is no way you can insert the mag into the gun with the slide closed. The mags 10 rd stack cannot compress anymore. But, I found a better fix.

I have 5 mags total..all black and all hold 10 rounds..the 10th is tight but gets better with use.
I find them hard to insert with 10 in the mag and 1 in the chamber but a good smack usually seats them
No feeding problems in a little over 2000 rounds

My mags are all new, do yours have the "9" on the follower? I'm wondering by yours getting better with use, are you slowly deforming the legs on the bottom of the follower?

x2 i still like mine, and would like to buy more mags, would love to know if anyone has tried .40 s&w mag in a 9mm? some pistols in 9mm function fine with .40 mags, and allow more 9mms to be loaded
