First handgun shopping

My first one was a .22 Ruger Mark II. Everyone told me to get a .22 cause it's cheap to shoot. Then Berreta 92fs. Then Glock and another Glock. MP9 is nice as well but best thing to do is shoot them yourself and pick.

Don't say "never" to matches. When standing in one spot perforating paper gets old, and it will, you can spark things up by attending the different competitions in your area. Great folks and additional challenges ensure you have a great time with your handguns for years to come.

So my advice is to buy a gun you like for sure. But if it comes down to choices between two or three you like equally then go with the one which lets you buy reasonable price extra mags and holsters and mag pouches that fit well and are suitable for "shooting games".

I'm in the same boat... getting close to pulling the trigger on a first pistol as well. Weekend shooter, but unlike you I am interested in possible competition. Like many have said handle as many as you can, it's a bit more challenging to shoot all the options, but for me as soon as I held the CZ 75 I could tell it fit... and the IWI Jericho 941 felt just as good in steel. I know the CZ 75 sp-01 shadow is about as good as you can get for a factory pistol for competition, but I'm leaning towards the Jericho because of the really great price for the 9 with range kit... the rest I could spend on ammo... crap, I really do like the CZ though, I'm torn. lol

Stay with the originals would be my view.. the add ons can be replaced with better alternatives and you will appreciate it later.

That's the same order I went in with my Girsan, 686 and 617 but I went .44 Magnum instead of .45 with the 629.
It's funny I always swore up and down a 1911 would be my first handgun but I still haven't gotten around to getting one. I think it's because I didn't expect to find full lug revolvers so ###y.

Hi, im shopping for my first handgun. I went to a store and took at look at a few (mp9, fns9l, 226, glock, 92fs, CZ). MUST be a 9mm, under 1000$ and i wont do competion just weekend shooting.

I was set on a mp9 for it's simplicity, reliability and price but since i handled the Sig im unsure!

Tomorrow im going to see a used HK USP9 for 800$ and a P320.

Here is the final list that i made:

-New MP9
-New P320
-Used USP9
-Used P226

Wich one do you guy's suggest the most?

At the same time if you are selling one of these send me a pm.

Thanks waiting for your idea!

The best choice for a first handgun is anything in 22LR. Any number of manufacturers will do the job (Ruger, Browning, GSG, Colt, etc).

Cheaper guns, cheaper ammo, easier to learn with, and you will learn better skills faster. As a side bonus, while you are at the range practicing , you will probably meet lots of friendly folk, with centre fire pistols which will likely allow you to handle and or test shoot them. You can then buy the pistol most suited to your grip and shooting, plus have better skills when you do start shooting centre fire.

Oops, I see I was a little late to the thread, lol. Lock that Sig up, and buy a 22LR!

Nice! Was going to recommend the M&P9 but hey man gotta go with what fits. Congrats!

You can't beat having a 22, they are a good addition to any collection. Sometimes its just fun to plink away a couple hundred rounds without worry.
