First handgun shots ever, CZ Shadow

I went to CRAFM yesterday and bought CZ Shadow. I fired about 30 rounds. My impressions have to be taken with a grain of salt, as it was first time ever i used a handgun.
I found it very accurate and it ejected flawlessly, in spite of reported problems with new Shadows. Recoil was a bit of a surprise, but I got used to it quickly.
I chose Shadow, as I wanted a good, reliable and accurate handgun that I could eventually use in IPSC. If it weren't for financial constraints, I would have chosen a decent revolver as a first handgun. I would appreciate pointers on how to progress with training.
BTW, it was my third visit to CRAFM in Montreal, and the staff was knowledgeable and helpful as ever.
 
Shoot it lots. There is all kinds of video on YouTube, with regards to stance grip etc..
The Shadow is going to be my next pistol. You've chosen a fantastic platform for IPSC. Get yourself a holster, (I suggest a BladeTech DOH) and some CR Speed Mag Pouches and belt.
 
You're talking about the range in Lachine, right? I was just there on Saturday to do my PAL course. Do they have pistols other than the ones on display, or did you buy that piece in their display case (and which is, incidentally, on their website)?
 
There are reported problems with the Shadows ejecting? I hadn't heard anything about that, but I've had a headache over the odd stovepipe through mine lately. I figured it was my reloaded ammo being just a touch to wide and needing more reshaping.
 
Clarification.....

Apparently, some new Shadows don't eject all that great till the spring loosens up after a few hundred rounds. As I understand, not prevalent and not a biggie, as it eventually goes away.
Yup, that's the range in Lachine. I bought new in case. There are firearms not on the display, like H&K P7 I'd love to own. Don't be shy to ask.

Some CZs have an ocasional FTE or FTF during first 50-200 rounds. The usual cause being recoil spring not being broken in; and personally - I'd recommend polishing barrel's feed ramp too. Slide / frame surfaces need to mate as well, so give it 100-200 -rds or so to get better.

Hm. Are you a member there? I think I need to be a member of a gunclub in order to get my RPAL, but I find that one to be a little pricey in terms of membership costs.

Nice buy, by the way. I'm pretty much going to get my RPAL specifically because I want a CZ 75B or 85B. I haven't yet fired a handgun, though...

You won't be disappointed by either. both the 75B and 85 Combat are great guns.

Yes, I am.
You can get RPAL, but i understand you will not be able to get a registration and ATT for restricted unless you are a member of approved gunclub (collector status is possible, too, but the guns in question don't fall into collectibles category).
Membership is no chickenfeed, but it' the only way. Besides, they seem like a good bunch...

Going a little off track here - sorry...

How (un)crowded was the range? 12 stalls does not seem like a lot to me.
 
Mine was one that was a bit lazy for the first couple of hundred rounds. They would literally dribble out onto my right hand wrist and roll off onto the bench or floor. Had 3 or 4 FTE stovepipes due to this. Things got better over the next 200 and once I gave 'er a good cleaning at 500 it never looked back and was chucking them with gusto from that time on.

Congrats on a first rate first handgun purchase. My own Shadow will not be leaving my possesion until only it, a 1911 and one of my revolvers is all that is left and there is just no way I can shoot anymore due to some dastardly physical limitation.

For your first revolver hunt around for a Model 19 .357 magnum in good shape. An alternative that I can also recomend is a Model 27 or 28. These bigger N frame options being guns that'll make you smile and say "Go ahead... MAKE my day.... " :D No kidding, the ability to shoot .38 Spl for plinking and general range fun that won't leave your wrist pulsing and then to shoot some .357 magnums for giggles makes for a superb all around handgun experience. And then when you have the revolver get a Wolf spring kit for it. I've fit these kits to my own 19 and 28 and the DA pull reduced a heap and the SA pull is almost too light but entirely safe. It's just that I need to get used to it again. I think it's down around 2 lbs pull now for SA.

And going back to the Shadow, the Bladetech holster fits the gun superbly if you don't want to go with one of the L style external "holders" for IPSC. It's the one I got and I was more than happy with the quality, the design and the offset it has built into it to hold the gun out from the belt a bit for a good grip before pulling it clear.

I just got my CZ SP-01 Phantom from CRAFM.
They are great to deal with.:D

Took mine to the range on Monday and it even impressed my friend "Glock Man"
Its tough to beat a CZ.
Will post a review next week.
