Correct as usual James! Everything comes down to trigger management with handguns and once you master that, the sights/stance/breathing is a piece of cake. That all means trigger time and lots of it! Start with a budget tack driver like those little Ruger Mk III's or Browning Buckmarks. Buy two cases (CASES, not bricks, 10,000 rounds) - and go to town. There are other .22's but other than the dedicated target pistols - those two seem to be the most accurate and the best bang for the buck.
If you put your homework in on the .22, within a year or two, you can graduate to pretty much any big bore you want with the exception of the hand cannons that develop enough horsepower to kill on both ends. A lot of noobs make the mistake of going straight to a .44 Mag or other centerfires with tons of muzzle blast - and then get depressed when they can't hit anything. Start off right, get the best guns ya can...and enjoy the journey.
