bought my first handgun the end of Dec. and got all the paperwork back to pick it up this week. I got myself a Sprinfield xd40 tactical and finally had the chance to shoot it on Sat. What a blast.
I never use to understand what the big deal about shooting handguns was but after firing my brothers handguns I had to get one. Anybody who says they are useless never fired one before.
Allready researching my next purchase, probably a target model .22.
Anybody who shoots strictly shotguns and rifles (as I once did) should really look into trying a handgun and see what all the fuss is about.

I have been shooting handgun for under a year as well and I can't think of a better sport than IPSC right now. I don't know why I waited so long to get involved in it. Take my advice and get a reloader sooner than later. That factory ammo is $$$. Now I got my sights set for 3-gun and researching ar-15s for my next purchase.:ar15:

Good on ya!!
IPSC (or run n shoot as I used to call it)is about the most fun a person can have with your clothes on.

Try cowboy action. That way you get to shoot handguns, shotguns, and rifles all at the same time. Talk about fun. Just stop in and try it. Most clubs are more then happy to let you try their guns before you invest all your money.

Looks and sounds like a lot of fun, what type of guns, they all sound like small caliber except the shotgun. Most of the guns I've got wouldn't qualify, maybe my vintage Winchester 30-30, but probably not my semi automatic shotgun, so it looks like I'd need a shotgun and a pistol, are the pistols single action??

You need two single action revolvers and a lever action rifle that takes handgun ammo. As well as a 12 ga. shotgun. They must all be piriod correct.
They are usually 38 cal. or 45. cal. but cowboy loads are under 1000 ft. per second so they don't boom as much and bend up the metal targets.
30.30 winchester can be used in a side match.

Handguns are cool, but if you really want to hit your target use a rifle. It's important to remember that rifles can be made to take handgun ammo but a handgun cannot take rifle ammo. Therefore, shoot cowboy action and load the same ammo in both.

You better belive it. It's even more fun when the black powder starts smoking up the range. I've seen a BP shotgun blow smoke rings 30 ft. with no trouble. lol lol
