First HG for person with child hands?

Been there; what works for me (size 6.5 gloves)

Browning Hi-Power
CZ 75,85,SPO1
Single Stack 1911
USP ( I thought it would be too boxy but it works well)
HK2000, P30L
S&W 686 & N-frames
 
i've only fired a CZ75 once, but to me it felt as small as (if not smaller than) a 1911. punchy little f**ker, too.
 
Lots of opinions here and really the best advice is to try and hold a variety of guns; better still try shooting as many as possible. But failing that, the one gun that, hands down, has the most adjustable and tunable grip is the HK P30/P30L. They come with 3 different sizes of backstraps as well as 3 different sizes of grip side panels. You can tune this grip any way you like to fit your hands. Small palms? Short fingers? No problem for this gun. You WILL be able to find a sweet spot as far as grip fit goes. The catch is that the gun is a bit pricey...

Next best fit for small hands would be the S&W M&P. Lots of guns in its price range have interchangeable backstraps, but none as good as the M&P in my humble opinion.
 
Good to know im not the only one with this problem. Fortunately price is not so much an issue with me. I would also rather buy something good once than buy crap twice.

My plan changes by the minute, but so far I'm leaning towards a G17 for 9mm and a kimber 1911 for a .45. Maybe a kimber pro carry II. ($1000 range) Maybe a g19 would be better SHTF gun...
Anyone use a glock 19?
 
Glock 17 for small hands? I must have really small hands. I sold mine because I was strangling it trying to get my hands around it. It would throw my shots down and to the left.

Browning Hi-Power, CZ 75, single stack 1911 and an old Colt Woodsman fit my hands the best.

I'd love to try the M&P Pro.
 
As above. It is common for new and for some experienced shooters who are right handed to "Pull" off left and low. It is actually that you are more "Pushing" the trigger but thats another story.
I vote for the Hi power or Smith M & P. Like them both and I have smaller hands as well. The little Taurus 24/7 would also be a good choice, fits my hand quite nicely.

I can't believe anybody is suggesting the G17. Personally, I have medium sized hands and find the GLOCK grips way too big. You'd be much better off going with a S&W M&P, with the smaller of the grip backstraps (which I use and love). Now that the G17 Gen4s are out, their grips backstraps are also changeable and make a big difference I find, so that might be a way to go, but not an older model GLOCK I think. Also, stay away from H&K USPs, Beretta 92fs and double stack 1911s. CZ is a good way to go, as well as the afore mentioned M&P.
 
Glock 19 also is not ideal for small hands. It's that funny bump on the grip. I find with 'large grip handguns' one can still shoot it well if paying attention to the basics constantly. however with a gun that fits your hand, you can do so faster and more effortlessly, so it is advantageous to find one that fits you better.

1911 is a good choice, can change to short trigger and/or thin grips as well.

Browning Hipower is very slim grip.

Walther P99, HK P2000, HK P30 all have adjustable grips.
 
most glocks have the same width (left to right) and depth (front to rear) grips, so i'd think they'd all be equally "bad" for someone with small hands. the SlimFrame might be ok but that's only 1 model i think, and the compacts are only shorter along the line of the mag as far as i know which does nothing to the size of the grip as far as hand size is concerned.

a CZ, a 1911, or a revolver are probably your best bet. the revolver is nice cuz the grip is separate from where the ammo sits, so it can be made smaller or larger relatively easily unlike in an semi-auto pistol where you can only go so far before hitting a wall.

only ##### about a 1911 as a first gun is that taking it apart for cleaning is a pain in the arse (compared to other guns). and the ammo is pricey if you go with the traditional 45. but you can get them in 9mm which makes it way cheaper and more "logical" as a starter. still keep the 1911 size but toss cheaper lead down the pipe. but it's easy on a small hand and there's TONS of support for it all over the planet.

i'd say that other than a 22 (which everyone is sick of hearing about), your best choices would be a 1911 in 9mm or a revolver in 357mag (but shoot 38specials out of it) - a smith or a ruger (or maybe a taurus). both will be equally cheap to own and shoot, and equally "bread-n-butter" as far as tools in your collection (which may stop right there, or grow).
 
Smaller hands

I had somewhat of the same problem, ended up buying the S&W M&P in 9mm, but all of that model ( 9, 40 or 45) you can change the backstrap to fit a grip that suits you. I also have the PARA Gi Expert single stack in 45, as I could not get a good grip on the double stack.

I have Huge hands. Can anyone recommend a gun for those? :D

(No Joke, My ancestors mustve been some kind of executioners or butchers)
