Hi!
My first hunt ever was supposed to be a small game hunt with friends this fall, but omg my uncle invited me to go moose hunting with him 2 weeks before my small game hunt! I have no words! I can`t wait!
I have a question, I don't know what ammo to buy.
Do you have any preferred ammunition for .30-06 for moose hunting?

thanks!

Bonjour!

merci!

I always have good luck with Remington Core-lokt 180gr. The cheap ones in the yellow box. Although if you are hunting long range, like 300m+ I would use something more precise.

What they said above makes perfect sense, but I would talk with your uncle to see what ammo he is most familiar with for the area/distances that you are going to be faced with. And of course once decided buy some and go to the firing range before your hunt with the rifle you will be hunting with and the help of someone familiar with ballistics and sighting-in rifles.
Bonne chasse et bonne chance!
Dave

You can not go wrong with Core-Lokt. It is cheap and works. As Remington says, it's the deadliest mushroom in the forest. Any of the major ammo company's offerings will serve you well. I personally, am a Hornady man myself. But I do have a lot of Core-Lokt kicking around from my early hunting years.

if you have the time, get a few different loads and test them at the range - you might be surprised at the difference. My '06 will shoot 1/3 MOA with Barnes and 1 3/4" with Winchester silvertip... both 180g. Find what your gun likes and stick with it. Good luck on your hunt.

I use Federal 180gr Partitions in .308/.300 Win Mag for Deer and Moose. They worked great, we dropped two moose over the years with a .308 180gr Partition.

If you don't have time to mess with various loads/brands, stick to a 180gr bullet. Different loads will be the difference between a 1 or 3 inch group at 100 meters. For a moose hunt in Quebec that is plenty accurate as most your shots will stay well within 200 meters.
