First hunt with my M70: Pic added

So, today was my first day out this year, and first ever hunt with my new M70 feather weight. It's a keeper! I took the only buck we seen today. He's no monster by any means, but a nice even 3 point that will put a bit of meat in the freezer for sure. The new winny worked flawlessly I will post some photos tomorrow.

Well I'm happy with it. I had a decent amount of range time with it before open season, and it seemed to do better every time out, but nothing spectacular for grouping. My cz 523 kevlar and remington LTR will both post more consistent groups, but as discussed previously I hadn't had any real good ammo. Also, it's a hunting rig and I'm one of the most indecisive shooters(ask my buddies they will likely say chicken sh!t) meaning I won't take the shot if I have any doubt that I'll make it, so sub moa don't matter. The scope was a temporary 4-12 Shirestone that I pulled off my cz for this year(ran out of funding)but it's holding zero and worked excelent on thursday so it may become a permenant fixture on this rig. We'll see if we get into some lower light or foggy conditions. All and all, it's great to have the first notch on her and I have every confidence in this little rifle. Oh yeah, I like the stock as well!

I see a four pointer.
Lol. I'm no trophy hunter, but I have never counted the brow tine as a point. I will gladly concede to call him a 4 pointer. When does the tine become a point? Is there a certain size? I can't even begin to explain the difference from east to west and adding both sides to one though. The way I grew up, and to my dad, grandpa, and uncles this would be a 3. That doesn't mean we're right though. I'm glad to learn.

In Ontario we'd count every point. And I consider a point to be anything above 1 inch. Therefor yours is at least a 7, possibly an 8 (I cant get a good look at the one brow tine).

Both brow tines are over an inch. He has a very symetrical rack. So any tine over an inch is considered a point?
Good to know. I don't know why I didn't know that. Thanks

Thats how they are counted for the officail Boone and Crockett measuring method

A: NUMBER OF POINTS ON EACH ANTLER
To be counted a point, the projection must be at least one inch long, with the length exceeding width at one inch or more of length. All points measured from tip of point to nearest edge of beam as illustrated in Figure A. Beam tip is counted as a point, but not measured as a point.
