I hope this works!
Well here is the Deer I got on my last day of hunting! I only had one week of hunting this year, so my time was short. On opening Moring, just after sunrise I seen a nice 10 point, very comparable to this fellow! mind you, they all look big in the scope...lol. He was 600m out and in a strong cross wind, so I just watched him standing there with 6 Does.
Fast forward to the last day of my hunting season. There was a nice light wind out of the SE, so I took a gamble on a spot just east of home. Packed up and walked to the spot, I wasn't even set up and the deer started coming out of pocket of trees, no more then a 100m from me. So I just laid back on my back pack and enjoyed the afternoon.
A little later I was looking through my Bino's and seen two deer in another field across the road, they were well over a klick away. When I took a second look, my jaw dropped. He was following a Doe! So I watched them and I took a guess on where I figured where they come out in the field I was hunt hunting
Well, I guessed right. So, I lazed them at 580m! I wasn't going to chance a shot on him at that distance, good thing I didn't because they took of, but they came closer to me, then they went behind a pile of scrub brush! So I figured, I can't see them, they can't see me, made sense in my mind! Off I go, I got to a certain spot and didn't want to push my luck any further.
Dropped my back, got in the prone position using the back pack to rest my rifle on, then patiently wait. Sure enough I seen movement on the other side of the scrub brush. First came the Doe, then I seen him following her. I waited until she cleared an opening. Then he came into view. Watched him, not his antlers...lol, been there before!
All I remember is hearing the gun go off, then the unmistakable thump of the bullet hitting home, he dropped right where he stood. Once I got to him I was amazed on how nice and big he was. Then the fun part began. After Cleaning him, I had a close to 2k walk back home to get my truck, that was a long walk in the snow...lol.
Yes I could have called my wife, but my cell phone was home on the kitchen counter...lol. Got my truck and went to pick him up, it took me 4 attempts to get him in the box. The picture doesn't do him justice, wish I had phone on me to take better pictures of him. At least I this picture and will have memories of this hunting season.
