I'm thinking of getting rifle that uses a .308 win. Could you guys help a fella out selecting a good value rifle (and scope) which uses that cartridge? Can't say I know too much about this sorta stuff.

Thanks

The new Vanguard II looks pretty good on paper - it has a MOA accuracy guarantee and should come in under $500. There are also some nice Savage rifles - check out their web site.

There are some really good deals at Trade-ex an Husqvarna 1600 rifles in .30-06; that chambering is very similar to a .308 Win.. They are available for under $500 and that is the route I would take.

There are some shops out there clearing out Bushnell 3200 series scopes - you could get a nice one for under $300. Another option is a Weaver K4 or K6 - both can be had for around $200.

Good luck - and welcome to the site.

Cabelas has the entry level Savage Axis Xp Bolt action and scope combo, in .308 for under $400.
Don't know much about it, but it has good reviews.

Find a well stocked gun shop in your area, walk in, and ask to see and hold every gun in you're price range. Pick the one that feels right.

That being said a Savage 11 will outshoot you and is a very reasonable price. I have yet to hear a complaint that a savage wasn't accurate enough(except for people shooting competitions..and even then it's a usually tough call).

It would definitely help if the OP could give us some more information like mentioned above, lever? bolt? semi? Bolt action I would personally go Stevens 200 and get some really nice optics and buy a stock from boyds.

Savage Scout m10 in 308 win. with accustock, good trigger and Savage is known for accuracy. Buy slightly used and save a few hundred dollars. I believe a good mid-range priced used rifle is a better investment than a new entry level rifle especially if it comes with a scope. That being mentioned I have one that I'm selling.

T.C Venture best $ value on the market at this time nice Finnish excellent triggers superb accuracy . The Savage line is fine but somewhat crude compared to the T.C or the weatherby Vanguard they are going to have to clean up there act if they want keep a piece of the market.
