Lots of good info in there for a new gun owner. I did the trigger mods and I am very happy with my 10/22

cant say much about the gun but i will say boresnakes are a rediculous invention that are, imho, totally useless. if it were me i'd just properly field strip the whole thing every 500 rds, but i enjoy that kind of thing... or go with a hole in the reciever.
if money is no object, there is the otis cleaning system which is far far superior to a boresnake

I would like to know why you think the boresnake is such a bad invention?? I clean my 10/22 with a boresnake all the time and i love it. Also use one on my M14 and SKS without issue. Its quick and it cleans well when used with solvent. Just curious because you give no reason why they are "totally useless". I wouldnt hesitate to recommend them to anyone. From time to time i run a rod brush and patches through when necessary.

Ya, I am thinking about getting a volq extractor as a backup in case my original one does fail one day. I haven't kept track, but I would guess I am probably at about 5K rounds through mine so far. If/when the factory one does fail, I will contact Ruger for warranty and see if they live up to their reputation for warranty service.

I've always used a bore snake on my .22's and .17's...never had any issues.
I think the problem people find with them is that it takes some muscle to pull it through.
...But that's were you separate the men from the boys.
