One of the guys from my service rifle club invited me up to his place to hunt wallaby's around Lake Tarawera. I've had my AR for about a month or so now, a RRA Elite Operator, and done a bunch of load testing, but was dying to take it for a hunt. I managed to nail this little guy, after missing out on one earlier in the day. They're nocturnal, so pretty docile during the day, but get spooky around dusk.

I'm in love with the AR platform. I think it makes a brilliant hunting rifle. Though I think a shotgun would be better suited to hunting these things in this kind of terrain. They make for very hard targets when they get moving.

for a second there I was like

"WHAT IN THE ####"

But after some crafty trolling I realized you were in New Zealand.

My jelously has turned into an intense burning hate for you and your freedoms.

To the OP:

I HATE YOU!!!!!!

Just kidding.

In New Zealand you can obviously hunt with an AR platform, while we here in Canada are only allowed to use it on an "approved" range. :(

Yes, it sucks huge.

fyi, if you really want to hunt with your AR, just put it on a Form 6NIA and take it down to the US. Plenty of states let you hunt with an AR...

Memo to Wendy: there's zero difference between the Ruger Mini-14 and the AR-15 in this regard........both are perfectly viable hunting rifles.....:yingyang:

Careful, Fat Wendy could use that statement in a negative way too. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you 100%. I can remember the days of hunting gophers with an AR and 30 round mags.
