Hey, just wondering what everyones using for lefty bolt action or lever action rifles. Im not interested in semi autos (yet), and i dont want to spend over $500. Ive been looking at threads on the 10/22 but im reading mixed opinions on whether or not its worth getting if you're left handed. Also is henry lever action worth getting as a cheap starter? Please explain whether yes or no. Thanks alot

I'm a lefty and in my opinion the best bang for your buck is the Savage Mark II BTVLSS. They usually sell new for around $470 at most shops but I got mine last month at Ellwood Epps for $399. I just checked Epps and they have one left:

Super accurate gun, you will love it. I've got a bunch of .22s. A couple of 10/22, a Marlin 39A, a Ruger bolt (rh) and a bunch more. But the Savage mentioned fits right. And you will understand that once you've handled it.

Good luck!

Thanks for replies, im looking into every gun right now that you guys have listed. Anyone like the savage 93gl?

Just so you are aware, the BTVLSS (heavy barrel, accutrigger, thumbhole stock) model is not always easy to find. But if you want a "target" .22 that's left handed, it's hard to find better in that price range.

I saw 1 at Epps about a year and a half ago but procrastinated and kicked myself because it sold. I've been waiting since for Epps to get them in stock once again. Found one in North Bay but they were asking $450 and wouldn't match Epps price because Epps didn't have them in stock. I've been checking Epps' inventory daily since. So, a month ago I saw 2 come in so I put a downpayment over the telephone and 2 days later I raced up there and grabbed it. Now there's still one left but I suspect it won't be there long. Once it's gone they probably won't have any until next February. And, at about $70 cheaper than Lebaron's, it's an awesome deal.

Just my 2 cents...

As a lefty I much prefer a left handed action in bolt guns. Just so much easier to use.

But my 10/22 works perfectly fine for me too. As does every other semi-auto I've ever shot.

I shoot left handed. I have no problem with a right handed action. In fact given a choice I prefer it, as it allows me to keep my trigger hand positioned & operate the action with my right hand.

I do have a problem with right handed Monte Carlo type stocks & thumbhole stocks. ;)

i've been looking at the Savage Mark II BTVLSS, and i have decided that im not a big fan of the look of the gun, haha. i'm sort of picky i guess. i'm now looking into some cheap bolt action rifles that i can customize to my liking, as the decent quality lever actions (marlin 39a or browning bl-22) are a little pricey.

SO, recommended bolt actions?

this thread is going to go on for a while... i want to make sure i know what im getting myself into when i get my first gun.

thanks again!

I'm a lefty and I shoot a 597 without a problem... heck, I put a nice laminate stock on it and now it's a lefty-only gun!

Pictures?

I am a south paw, and I've shot right handed rifles, but I'd really like a nice bolt .22 in lefty configuration.

I keep meaning to take pictures of that gun; I guess now I'll have to get around to it!

Also, Browning makes their T-Bolt in left-handed configurations. Pretty sweet little rifle.

I'll never understand lefties that say a right hand gun works just fine for them.....
Are we so used to getting the shaft that it begins to feel ok?

I agree with Andrewe.

I really like the left handed CZ452. Reminds me of an Anchutz in terms of barrel accuracy just not as smooth in the bolt and trigger.

I will also say do not forget about Lever action rimfires. They can be a lot of fun.

I have a left hand Savage .17hmr with a thumbhole stock and a Browning SA-22, and a winchester 1890. All lefty friendly guns. I hate shooting RH guns especially semi-autos. There are lots of ambidextrous guns out there too.

93R17 BSEV vs. 93R17 BTVLSS, anyone have an opinion? I am a leftie, and obviously the BSEV has a right handed action, but the Boyd stock feels pretty good, and the helical fluted barrel is pretty cool... I looked at a used BSEV yesterday, but I have never actually handled a lefty BVTLSS.

CZ 452 17 hmr left hand for everything that I dont want to eat ,1022 for everything I do. I would gladly get rid of the 1022 for a 22 in a CZ lh thew just shoot too dam straight !
