Heres my first long range style rifle.
As of today my investment is about $2200 including the case, so its a pretty cheap rifle. And so far my hand loads are coming along nicely. 5 shot group into 7/16", just need to get that to happen all the time. I don't believe I'm better than a 1/2MOA shooter yet. The gun is probably better than me.

.243 Win
Rem 700 SPS Varmint with factory barrel
Manners MCS T-1 Tactical Stock alum pillar bedded
Stock x-mark trigger tuned to 2lbs 4oz
EGW 20MOA base
TPS Alum 30mm Rings medium
4.5x-18x 56mm Falcon Menace scope ESLR mildot
Badger bolt knob in the works
And a Pelican case

Bedding and trigger job done by AC Douglas in Saskatoon, great guy to deal with.

Thats a pretty good start! I assume the caliber is a .308 maby 22-250.

Once you have the cash and have got in lots of shooting the next step is a nice custom barrel, maby a Gaillard?

Should be alot of fun. How far out do you plan to shoot?

I forgot to add the caliber. Its .243 win. I plan to work out to 1000+ someday.

I haven't put too much thought into barrels yet, I thought I would try the stock one first. But maybe this winter I will order a Gaillard since he's in Sask. I guess most after market barrels are stainless now so it might be hard to get something to match the parkerized finish.

Stainless with black does not look so bad.

Good choice on the caliber:D. I'd shoot out the factory barrel as well. It's a cheaper way to become as good a shooter as the gun, and once you are you can make the gun better.

I think Lapua make brass for .243. I highly recomend lapua brass.

This guy uses Lapua brass→:slap:←This guy does not!

have fun!!:D

Sharp rig! I've just gotten into target shooting, so my rig is a bone stock SPS Varmint in 223. Been giving some serious thought to building on it or getting a 12BVSS. Looks like a load of fun building your own rig though!

Thanks for the positive comments guys, I really like it. I would have liked a little brighter black on the stock, it looks almost dark grey. But it'll do. Manners calls the paint Dead flat black, which is exactly what it is.

Its looks a little high (I guessed on needing medium rings) but I thought If I put the sun shade on, which adds 2 1/2" with the scope cap it might not clear since its on a 20 moa base. So far I like the menace. Its my first target/tactical scope so I don't have to much to base it on, but the reticle is very fine which I like. Long range testing to come soon, portable gong is being built right now.

As for what I'm loading it with. So far I've tried 70gr SMK's and 107gr SMK's. I'm going with the 107gr with 36.0gr of h4350. I should really see if I can squeeze another grain and a half or so in there, but I'm a little lazy with load testing. 36.0 shot good so I stopped there. I really wanted to use the 95gr SMK but I couldn't locate any in Canada.

243

Beautiful looking guns the both of them...I just picked up a Remy700 243 VLS and will shoot it this year as a stock rifle. Did a little trigger work on it and I'm quite happy. Still working up some loads and hope this weekend to be out in the Calgary area to do a little shooting. I also have a Tikka Tactical in 308 with a IOR 2x12 Tactical scope on it, just love shooting that gun. So looking at this site I can dream of one day putting together a nice rifle also....maybe a 6.5x47 unless something else groups better in the future.
