I am after my first pistol after passing my future club's ATT course. I want a .22 pistol simply for the fact of cheap ammo which means tons of trigger time. I want the price to be under $500 before taxes. My 3 choices are the Browning Buckmark Camper in with a 5 1/2" barrel, the Ruger Mrk. III with a 4 3/4" barrel or the Ruger Mrk. 22/45 with a 4.5" barrel.....I will not be getting the stainless versions of any of these. Pick your fav. and tell me why you like or REALLY dislike any of my choices.

Thanks

I recently bought the Ruger Mark iii 22/45 with slabsided 4.5" barrel. Balances nicely and grip not as raked as standard ruger.

Got a Ruger 22/45 a few years ago. Like it a lot, but the grip is a bit on the thin side. Recently held a Browning and I may have to get one. Felt good in the hand.

My first handgun was a used Ruger MKII bull barrel with voquartsen parts. I shoot that gun by far the most often. I believe the MKIII is very similar to the MKII so I endorse the MKIII. There are a lot of aftermarket parts for the ruger mk series so that makes it nice to customize your gun to your liking.

Any of your options will fit the bill nicely.

Personally I like the Buckmark the best, it is the one I chose from your options. I also had the Mosquito, P22 and several used pistols to choose from as well at the time, IMHO you have the 2 best .22 pistols on your poll.

Cheers!

More than $500.00 but you might like something like a Sig P229 Classic 22LR.

Or a P226 Classic 22LR.

To get the the long-term ATT, by being a club member in Ontario, is increasingly subject to taking a club's own in-house course. :yingyang:

you don't need to be a club member to get a long term att. Confirmed by the CFO when I called them last week.

Back on topic. out of those three, the browning looks the best. They all seem to shoot about the same from what I've read.
But have you considered a walther p22? I shot one a few weeks back and fell in love. Definitely the best .22 that I shot (next to the p226 classic in .22, but I can't afford it).

I wish the person I had telephoned at the Ontario CFO's office - and many of the ranges I had spoken to - had known that......

Thank you :) - but the Ontario CFO's office still seems like it insists on club membership 1st?

I like Walther P22 a lot. Grip sure is way to small but the whole thing is small and light and slick. Over the course of last few years I would buy Walther, shoot is for a while and then sell it to finance something. But then there will be another good deal on P22 on EE and I am buying again. All of those P22's I owned were better shooters than Rugers or Buckmarks, and I handled and shot number of those too. Choosing between rugers and buckmarks I would pick buckmark.

Why not buy a good used gun? Excellent MKII's are going for $350 or so, and trick them up a bit with kits like the Volquartsen and some nice grips and you're still under $500. The MKIII doesn't have any features you'll miss.

There is always the slip on grips, which I WAS going to get for mine, but I don't want to pay $20 shipping for a $10 thing...
The 22/45 was my first, and I like it, and it isn't hard to take apart/reassemble with all the videos/essays of it. My problem is I can't get the barrel off the grip frame ever... I have tried phone books, wood, large rubber hammers, and it won't budge... So I gave up the thought of changing sears... but I digress...

I voted Buckmark. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best (yes, I own one so I'm biased :D).

I tried all 3 out in the shop, and the Buckmark fit my hand the best, and I think it looks better than the Rugers.
