First pistol advice

I'd go for two entirely different guns, just personal preference though. The buckmark and rugers are both excellent 22's. As for a 9, lots of great selections when it comes to it. If you don't much care for price get yourself a 9mm revolver. :p

I like the simplicity of a revolver Rey, I’ll get one eventually but I have my sights on a semi-auto.

Consider the size and grip strength of your child. They will want to shoot the pistols also. The CZ has huge grips and is heavy for a smaller person. Take the small one with you to try out fit, get the 22 that they can handle with confidence and a 9 that you both can handle. Time will add a CZ just for you.

Thanks easy, I’m off to research fns
Check out Hickock45 and nuthinfancyproject's reviews on YouTube of the FNS, excellent value for an excellent handgun. I own the FNS9LS (long slide=5" barrel) , first handgun I bought and still my favorite to shoot. I have had the opportunity to shoot quite a few handguns that are double the price and have yet to find one that outshot the FN.

Ruger 9E and it's cheaper still.

Excellent question and I may be able to help. My first pistol was a S&W M&P 9mm range kit. You can pick them up for sub $649 these days. I just bought myself a Sig 1911-22 this summer. I run blazer .22lr in the sig. the round seems to be wax coated and the crimp is tight as hell. Feeds like a dream in semi auto firearms. My M&P I run S&B 124 grain but will probably switch to the 115 grain when this stock runs out. As for the guns. I’m so happy with both. The sig I picked up at Tenda for the amazing price of $369.99 regular $489.99. I think Tenda has them for $399 (tan Color). Happy shopping mate.

Buy a Buckmark or Ruger MKII. As a first gun, and accurate .22 allows you to shoot more than any other caliber and really focuses on fundamentals.

Of all my firearms, my .22 rimfires get the most use of all. and the biggest giggles from everyone.

Good insight flashburn, I don’t have huge mitts either so the CZ may not even feel right. Maybe I should buy a smallish .22 no matter what. The Glock and Colt 1911 I shot both felt good in my hand, the Glock more so.

There are so many good choices available these days it can be overwhelming, but rest assured,,,no matter what you buy,,,they all multiply :)
We bought one handgun each a year and a half ago,,,, now I need a bigger safe :)

I would suggest a GSG 1911-22 and a 9 mm of your choosing. I started with a GSG and a Shadow as the Kadet kits are hard to come by and the advice offered to me was while they are great if you have an issue with your Shadow now you have nothing to put the kit on, also if you and your child want to shoot at the same time that is not possible with a Kadet or conversion kit. I later imported a Kadet kit through Irunguns and to be honest while it is a great 22 and ran awesome I ended up selling it because I found I never used it other than to show newbies how to shoot which I could do with the GSG.

Don't go with a 9mm and a .22 kit get two separate guns. GSG is cheap and fun, for 9mm get whatever feels best in your hand (CZ, Glock, Beretta/Girsan are good places to start)

Which version? 5” barrel or the ‘tactical’ with the threaded barrel? I think there’s a Q version as well...

I have the 5'', it has the same frame, ergonomic grip and ambi controls has the 9mm PPQ, except that it doesn't have the removable back strap. The grip is equivalent to the medium sizes back-strap which fits most people.

The sig/gsg 1911 is a good starter 22 pistola. Fun, reasonably accurate , cycles all brands of ammo (but standard velocity of course). It's got a zinc alloy slide so be aware it's not a gun that will outlive it's owner . I had slide wear to a point were the slide catch notch wore back and eventually would not engage the catch anymore. Had it replaced under warranty .

Good to know Billy!

I have a gsg 1911 and to be honest, you need the zrts kit for this gun to run fine, so it adds another 100$ or so. The 1911 was made to be a 45acp, so in order to run it simiarly on a puny 22lr round, changes had to be made, such as changing the slide for a zinc alloy, changing the barrel bushing, adding a screw on the barrel, etc... All those changes have made this gun a completely unnatural 22. And even with all those changes, it doesn't reliably cycle anything except cci mini-mags unless you install the zrts kit, and then it cycles all high-velocity ammos. It's not completely bad (if it was, I would get rid of mine), but it's not the best option out there imho.

I also have a browing buckmark, and it's by far my best 22lr, and possibly my best gun. On several levels, it outshines some of my 2000$+ guns. It will cycle anything. I really mean anything. The worst possible crap (think Winchester M22, or the 222/333/555, or the reming thurd), no problem. It's also super easy to clean, easier than any other 22lr I've ever had. And it's more accurate than any other handgun I own. Actually, I've never been limited by its accuracy, because unless I buy match-grade ammos (which are quite expensive for 22lr ammos), the gun is more accurate than the ammos. It's also a gun I can let anyone use to introduce them to firearms. Mine is a contour 7.25'', which is the deluxe model with a long bull barrel and a picatinny rail (really cool to install scopes and other toys), but basic 5'' models are less expensive, in the 450$ range I think. The buckmark was my first handgun, and I can't recommend it enough as anyone's first handgun. More expensive than the gsg, but the price difference is totally worth it.

I also own a 22lr revolver, and it's nice, but not what I would recommend for a first handgun.

I'm also with the popular opinion that 2 guns is better than a 9mm with a kadet. Not much more expensive, but a lot more versatile.

And finally, if you don't have enough budget for 2 high-quality guns, don't buy 2 cheap ones, get only 1 good one. I have a bunch of guns that never leave the safe, some far from being cheap, but for each calibre I almost only use my best one.
