First Pistol: Browning 1911-22, opinions?

Debating between choosing this or Buckmark Camper as first pistol.

The 1911-22 costs $200 more but everything I've read so far says it's sweet. I don't mind the fixed sights.

Plan to use for plinking at the range and to get into casual competitive shooting (bullseye)

Thoughts?

For bullseye shooting, go for Buckmark Camper. However, if you want to move
up to IPSC/IDPA level, a 1911 platform seems to be a better choice. Though not exactly sized as 1911,
Browning 1911-22 somewhat duplicates what you should be expecting in a full-sized 1911. You might also
consider a GSG 1911. Blueline will never let you down in terms of customer service. A Ruger Mk III / Ruger 22/45
is also a good starter pistol.
 
First pistol

I would say buy a used full size gsg 1911 from the EE. They shoot nice and you'll have fun with out spending at lot of money. When you get tired of it put it back on the EE. Then you can buy something better. Like the new sig 1911 in 9mm. Just my two cents.
 
My first pistol was a made in Belgium Browning Challenger II in .22 LR.
It is super accurate, functions flawlessly, and is a real pleasure to shoot.
Armco (site sponsor) has one for sale.

Remember, having a good fit is really important for accurate shooting, particularly with a handgun.

The Buck Mark is a better choice given your intended use. Look at the Ruger Mark III also, they're a great .22 pistol.
 
the Browning 1911-22 is awesome but realize that is very small and not really a fair comparison to a full size pistol
as for bullseye as mentioned above there may be better choices
as for plinking it is the pistol that everyone wants to shoot first because it is so "cute"
 
Exactly what Donny said...the 1911-22 is SUPER Small....I have shot one at my club and I found it to be toooo small

A friend of mine just got a GSG .22cal 1911and showed it to me. It hasn't been fired yet and I've never fired a 1911 in any calibre, but just from looking and handling, it seems quite well-made. And it's very inexpensive for a new pistol.
 
Browning is not really a bullseye gun, more of a fun plinker. I have a GSG and it's a fun toy, Had a couple of Buckmarks they are pretty accurate and well made but not as fun to shoot as the GSG so I ended up selling them.
 
I love my little 1911/22, but for a first 22 and intended for bullseye I'd recommend you stick with the Buckmark or get something even more suitable like the Ruger 22/45 "Target" and MarkIII "Target".
 
Just my opinion, but a gsg 1911 can have a great trigger ( thanks gunnar, armco) and dlask arms do an adjustable rear site as well for arround 50$. Knowledge is king......
