Picked up my very first pistol yesterday. I purchased it from a local (about the most local anyways) dealer on Saturday and brought it home yeasterday afternoon.
He filed the paperwork Monday, and suggested I come into the store while he called the CFO for my STATT. He said it seems to work best if he lets the CFO know the buyer is standing in the store waiting to take their firearm home. We waited on hold for about 15 minutes, I had a quick talk with the CFO rep to confirm some stuff, and they faxed over a STATT within a half hour after that.

I can't wait to get out to the range to have some fun with it. I'm a little nervous, but still pretty excited......and even now I can tell this hobby is going to get addictive and expensive fast. I spent a bunch of time going from one shop to another looking, asking questions, and handling any pistol I could. I also spent some time with some good friends in Montana shooting their collection, and after all that I decided that a good first pistol would be the G17. Anyways, it's my first pistol....it certainly won't be my last.

congrats on your first purchase. I purchased the m&p 9mm as my first purchase and it has been sitting here for the past few weeks awaiting my LATT to be complete. I ordered a glock 17 gen 4 last week and received notice today that they will be available May 8th!!! I am really excited to get this gun as my second. For now 2 will be perfect it will allow me to bring a friend to the range to shoot.

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for it and what sights did it come with???

I paid $749, plus tax. He wouldn't budge on the price as it seems demand is pretty high. I couldn't find another of the 17 in stock anywhere locally. I'm still pretty satisfied, the dealer was very friendly, a very mom & pop type operation but still professionally run and unlike some other places I've been didn't ignore me or trash any certain brand or model to me. I'll certainly be going back to this store again.

Not sure exactly of the sights, they are outlined in white and look pretty standard (if that means anything)

Congrats, it was my first too. Once you get used to the trigger reset you will actually hit some bulls with it. I love mine which is sitting at around 4000+ rounds so far and I haven't had one hiccup. When I press the bang button it goes bang, there is no doubt. There's a reason why so many law enforcement officers use it. A fine gun IMO and one that ushered in a new era for the modern handgun.

sounds like the factory sights. I believe that is what I will go with. The company I ordered from wants an extra 100.00 for night sight and I really cant justify it. Good luck and enjoy it. I will post once I get mine.

That Glock 17 is quite a tramp. It took my pistol virginity too. I'm very happy with mine, though I didn't like the rear "U" sight so I popped it out and turned it around. I can focus on the front much easier now, and my groups shrunk considerably. I wasn't as careful as I could have been, but it came out easily, with a few scuff marks on the sides,

I tell everyone that there first pistol should be a striker fired plastic gun. They always work. Now you can buy other toy's and cheap guns because you have the workhorse.

Congrats!!! I just ordered my first one too, M&P9 range kit for $679. Have my eye on a Glock 17 gen3. You're right… this sport is really addictive! Enjoy, see you on the range.

Cheers
