First pistol, my options are...or were

you guys are killing me here...The CZ is or was my number one choice....but i have a hard time with the price tag at the moment...i may have to reduce my armoury a little for it if thats what its going to take.
 
I traded my sig p226 mk25 for a cz shadow 2. I then proceeded to sell two more handguns of mine as the cz is all I want to shoot. It is an amazing pistol. You will not regret it.
 
Just Buy the CZ....Do't have to go to Shadow 2 line though....any CZ 75 to to CZ 75 SP01 Shadow will be awesome and you will not lose money on it. I have seen CZ 75's new for $800.00 and the original SP01 Shadow recently for under $1000.00, sometimes around $899.00. You Will not regret a CZ but you don't need to jump to the Shadow 2 to get a great CZ. JMHO
 
For the first pistol, consider a Norinco Sig or CZ clone. They pop up on EE regularly for about $300 shipped. I found a brand new unfired NP22 specimen, and then ordered Hogue grips ($25 @ Cabelas), 19 lb Wolff mainspring, plus recoil spring, decocker and trigger springs from the Sig P226 parts kit. Total strip, deep clean, lube, reassemble with new parts - it is quite impressive gun for the money.

Norc NZ can be tuned in a similar way. You get the same functionality for a fraction of the cost. If/when you decide to upgrade, you should be able to get most of your money back.
 
My personal preference is the M&P, I've got the .40 M&P Core Pro 5". Great handgun, I love it. I was debating b/w a glock, s&w, and Sig ... after putting a box of ammo through each I was sold on the M&P.

I'd recommend going to the range and firing at least a box of ammo through each of the guns youre seriously considering, see which feels the best in your hands when you fire it. I love the M&P, my buddy hates the M&P and loves the glock ... personal preference.

If you go M&P, consider getting the Pro model with the 5" barrel, it's worth the extra cost.
