In the process of getting my RPAL and I had pretty much decided on the M&P 22 after lots of research and handling a bunch of pistols in store. If the CZ Kadet were still available I would go for one of those hands down but I don't see used ones come up very often. However, the Grand Power K22 X-Trim caught my eye recently. Reviews seem to be very positive but the problem is I can't go handle one in person. Does anyone have any first hand experience with one of these?

No experience with either to be honest. but I'd go with GP seems like a cool/different gun.

I would say also consider GSG mine has been great!

my mp22 shoots great runs like a champ only issue is getting mags glad i don't have that problem i have 4 mags

I'd like to recommend the M&P, but the ongoing shortage of magazines causes me hesitate.

The GP does look interesting, but the GSG seems to have an excellent track record and loads of fans. I'd be looking into the magazine/accessory situation before making any purchase.

I considered the GSG but the 1911 platform just doesn't feel as comfortable in my hand. By all accounts it is also more picky with ammo than the M&P 22.

The M&P spare mag issue is a problem though...

I started with the M&P-22 pistol. I'm learned the hard way that I'm not a polymer fan. But more importantly I found that even though the gun was a fail proof shooter, the pistol wasn't accurate enough to enjoy. It also was a little too small. Barely, but small.

I opted out and bought a GSG. Flawless and fun. Authentic in style and size and virtually as reliable. I'm thinning my collection and currently have is for sale on the EE. I wouldn't have to think hard about the choice.

A friend of my has the grand power and the troubles are starting. Mag qualities (Mags are plastic) are causing some failure to load and failure to fire. The issues are spur-attic and have been making clearing up the issue(s) difficult. Visually the pistol is beautiful; but I hear the disappointment in his voice when he is AGAIN stripping it down or working a theory on its stubborn function.

Thanks for the input.

The M&P22 has been around long enough to be fairly well proven. Magazines seem to be available for the moment.

I'd love to try that Grand Power though. But it's much more of a gamble at this point.

I want the sig sauer p226 in 22lr a bit expensive but later on you a can upgrade to 9, 40 or 357 sauer for 350 so for 900 or so you can get 2 guns

I have the Grand Power K22 X-Trim that Ticketed referred to (post #7). I love the grip. Only minor beef is the place my left (support) thumb goes is on the end of the slide release. Not as comfy as my Shadow. Like I said, it's minor. Overall, it has an amazing, wonderful feel.

Accuracy is great. No issues there.

Now, about the ammo and mag issues.... If you load the mags to a full 10 rounds, you will most likely be pissed off in no time. I think the springs are too big/tight/whatever and/or follower bottoming issues because it sure seems like getting that 10th round in there can be brutal. One time when Ticketed loaded four mags for me, the top round of every mag had the bullet canted at an angle to the brass, causing feeding/firing issues. Or maybe these are designed to hold 9.99 rounds? This isn't like my wife's Buckmark.

For the first few range trips, I tried a variety of ammo and had problems with it all. Two recoil springs came with the pistol and I've tried them both. I now am using CCI AR Tactical .22LR ammo and it's running well, but often I'll only load 9 rounds in the mags. Sometimes 10 rounds, sometimes 9.

In searching the net, I came across a thread from the UK I think, where the guy went into detail about what he did to deal with the mags. I'll need to go find that thread again and see if I can get the gun happy with a wider range of ammo when loaded to 10 rounds.

The jury is still out while I do a couple things when I get a chance:

Measure the two springs that came with the pistol to see what each one is rated at to streamline testing.
Recheck all the ammo I have with a partially loaded mag.
Test a modified mag with all the ammo I have to see if that helps to fix the feeding issues (one example, hollowpoints would not feed at all previously)

If any of you are in the GVRD and don't mind driving to the Semiahmoo Range in South Surrey one of these Wed nights, you can try this pistol out. I've been way too busy lately to shoot much, but I'll be around more later in May.

I didn't try Grand Power K22 X-Trim but I have M&P22.

Pros:
- Eats every ammo with very small number of FTE and FTF. I have encountered about 2-3 FTE for 200 rounds with Federal.
- No problem with loading 10 rounds in the mag :)
- I like the trigger :)
- Disassembling and cleaning is simple
- Well made and made in Germany by Carl Walther!
Cons:
- Maybe is not as accurate as dedicated target .22 handguns but I'm fine with this

I also would be interested to hear why K22 is 100 times better then M&P22 since, in my opinion, such statement means that M&P22 is total garbage which it is not.

I'm hoping I don't get turfed for the reply.

The magazines that our UK distributor is selling are actually an older style and he also sells a custom extended baseplate for the UKPSA crowd shooting mini-rifle. Tweaking tips Scot posts might not always transfer to the regular K22S or K22 X-Trim. In the UK, they get a 12 inch barreled model with a fixed metal stock extension so it can be transferred as a rifle under UK law.

Apparently they love them in the UK. Our distributor there has brought more of the two .22lr models into the UK in the last 6 months than all models combined were shipped to Canada.

We were shipping the K22's with two separate recoil springs so you could use the one that best suits the ammo you prefer. (One would be in the gun, with a spare in the case).
We now have a twin nested recoil spring to try and cover a wider range without the need to switch.

If the magazines are that tight with the tenth round, I'd be tempted to take the pin out and drop the base plate and spring, then load up ten rounds and note where the follower sits. It's possible minor sanding could be needed. (I hate 10 round laws.....)
