First pistol: S&W M&P 22 or Grand Power K22 X-Trim Mk 12?

K 22 is 100x better pistol then the m&p

That may be an exaggeration.

The K22 departs from the norm when it comes to the rimfire variants offered by most of the other gun companies.
It is made from the same materials and uses virtually all the same parts as the centerfire models.
The slide is not a zinc alloy copy of the centerfire, but high quality steel scalloped or recontoured to reduce weight.

ok,ok, 5x then ;)

Thanks for the mag tip. I'll mess with it in a week or two when I get a chance.

When the pistol shoots, it shoots well. :) One example: When I was at the range several weeks ago, a newbie came in late and I offered to share my lane. He had only shot a couple times before and came with a 9mm so I suggested he start off with my K22 X-Trim. I coached him on the proper grip and using my target (a vertical Trigger Stripe), he put a mag a couple inches to the left of the vertical stripe. One more coaching tweak and he was nailing that stripe. He ended up putting something like 20-30 rounds within 1" (left/right) at 7 yards.

After he switched to his 9mm, he was all over the place :)

The K22 is a nice pistol. I just need to deal with the mag issues.

I have the Grand Power K22 X-Trim that Ticketed referred to (post #7). I love the grip. Only minor beef is the place my left (support) thumb goes is on the end of the slide release. Not as comfy as my Shadow. Like I said, it's minor. Overall, it has an amazing, wonderful feel.

Accuracy is great. No issues there.

Now, about the ammo and mag issues.... If you load the mags to a full 10 rounds, you will most likely be pissed off in no time. I think the springs are too big/tight/whatever and/or follower bottoming issues because it sure seems like getting that 10th round in there can be brutal. One time when Ticketed loaded four mags for me, the top round of every mag had the bullet canted at an angle to the brass, causing feeding/firing issues. Or maybe these are designed to hold 9.99 rounds? This isn't like my wife's Buckmark.

For the first few range trips, I tried a variety of ammo and had problems with it all. Two recoil springs came with the pistol and I've tried them both. I now am using CCI AR Tactical .22LR ammo and it's running well, but often I'll only load 9 rounds in the mags. Sometimes 10 rounds, sometimes 9.

In searching the net, I came across a thread from the UK I think, where the guy went into detail about what he did to deal with the mags. I'll need to go find that thread again and see if I can get the gun happy with a wider range of ammo when loaded to 10 rounds.

The jury is still out while I do a couple things when I get a chance:

Measure the two springs that came with the pistol to see what each one is rated at to streamline testing.
Recheck all the ammo I have with a partially loaded mag.
Test a modified mag with all the ammo I have to see if that helps to fix the feeding issues (one example, hollowpoints would not feed at all previously)

If any of you are in the GVRD and don't mind driving to the Semiahmoo Range in South Surrey one of these Wed nights, you can try this pistol out. I've been way too busy lately to shoot much, but I'll be around more later in May.
Thanks for the info and the offer jimbo, sadly I won't be down in the GVRD again for quite some time.

I got 98% on my RPAL exam today! Now all I have to do is send all the paperwork off to Miramichi and then wait impatiently. Slight problem though, I ended up handling a 1911 for the practical part of the exam and now I really want one. A lot. So it looks like a GSG 1911 is now seriously in the running as my first pistol...

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input. Based on the overwhelming number of positive reviews and relatively few negative ones, I've settled on an M&P 22. To lock in that choice I went online last night and ordered 3 extra magazines. Now the LONG wait...
