First pistol S&W MP9

Welcome to CGN.
You may want to try the search function , lots on this topic already but in a nutshell , good gun at a great price -enjoy .

as RUPZUK said, this has been discussed in depth many times :p Welcome to the site!

Like you, I was looking at getting my first pistol about 4 months ago. There are some that suggest you start with a .22 (like a ruger mk 2 or mk 3) and learn how to properly shoot before you move up to Centerfires. This helps you avoid the dreaded 'flintching' disease.

Unfortunatly I wanted to get a centerfire to have fun with first then maybe later on get a .22 and learn how to shoot so I went out and got my first handgun the S/W M&P9mm. The glock 17 is also a great option for the money spent but there have been some that say the M&P feels slightly nicer in the hand. In the end, either a glock 17 or a smith mp9 will serve you well. The good news is that they are both IPSC ready if you so desired. On a side note, Smith and Wesson have a deal going on till the end of Jan wherein you get 2 extra magazines for free. That means you get the gun + 2 mags, then send away and 2 additional mags!

Pretty sweet deal if you ask me :) It ended up being the deciding factor for me between the glock and the smith. (that and my father would have disowned me buying the 'ugly' glock ehehe)

I bought one last month. I found it very accurate, I had no stoppages at all in the first 100 rds. The 2 guys that I was with own Glocks and both thought alot of it. Trigger pull was ok and is supposed to smooth out even more with more shooting.

Not bragging...

I'm not bragging but last year at the SHOT show the day before the show opened was range day. The nice guys at the Sheriff's department let some manufacturers use the range.
The good people at S&W had many of their guns on hand to try. Among others I tried, I fired two magazines of the not-yet-released M&P in .45acp. Very nice, very sweet.
Yesterday at the range I had an opportunity to fire a members 9mm M&P. He was not printing very well with it. However, using my own reloads [135g DRG hard cast bullet with PROMO powder] the gun worked flawlessly and I had a nice group a little on the right.
If it was my gun I would just undo the set screw on the rear sight, move it over a little and test until honed.
The S&W M&P is a good product made by a good company. No Chi-com parts either!

I have one in the .40 and like it very much. Accurate, ergonomic and a good Tupperware ;-)

Made some simple reliability test on it: Up, down, on the side, by angle with weak wrist (my Berretta doesn't like that one) did not clean the gun for a while (about 300 rounds) and use different ammo such as Remington, federal, winchester and some reload...after more than 1K round, I still have to experience the first failure on it.

I believe it's a great gun for the price, you can't go wrong!

I shoot mine with 124 gr lead bullets cast from WW. Gun functions fine. Very accurate with no FTF issues at all. Grip is so much better than the Glock. If you want a tupperware gun this is the one to get. Mine is a 9MM.

Take Care
