First Pistol - Your Thoughts?

Which of these do you suggest for my first pistol?

I'm in the "Get a good quality .22" school of thought.
You'll learn all the fundamentals at 1/4 the cost.
Time to step up to a centre fire after you start shooting groups.
My thoughts only.
 
+1 on getting a quality .22, such as a Ruger Mk II/III, Browning Buck Mark, or S&W Model 17 and learning the fundamentals inexpensively. Get a 9mm when you have mastered the .22. Stay away from pot metal POSs like the SIG Mosquito or Walther P22.
 
Centrefires come and go. 9mm, 38/357, 40, 44, 45, all fun, all just what you need ...for a while.

Buy a 22 and it will be an investment for life. If you ever think you are "too grown up for a 22", it will be time to introduce your friends to shooting and bond with your kids. You're going to get one eventually, you might as well start your handgunning off right and get one in the first place.

I shoot either one of my rimfires at least twice as much as my 6 centerfires combined (and I reload) I love my centrefires but the last handgun I own will be a 22.

If price is not a matter, I would (and have) get a Sig 226. By far the best pistol I have ever owned. Of the three you listed, I would go for the Glock. I've owned the other two and they did nothing for me.
 
I love my glock 17. I shoot it so well, it makes me happy. But for a 1st handgun I'd recommend a CZ.

(I'd also skip getting a 22 pistol, 9mm IS my 22 when it comes to handguns.)
 
I have an SP2022 and a G17...
I shoot the Glock better. I like feel of the the Sig more.

But you should get a CZ-75b. It makes me feel like evolture does when he shoots his G17.... Ugh!!! :D
 
The trigger on the XDM or gXX is not as good as the CZ-75 or SigPro.

An XDm has a longer reset than a G17 regardless of all the M-factor propaganda.

I would choose an XDm over the Glock if it were not for the price.
 
I was just in your shoes a few weeks ago. I chose to purchase the CZ 75B. I held this gun, and it spoke to me.

I have had the great fortune of falling in with a group of great shooters at two different clubs. I have been given the opportunity to shoot many different pistols.

I, like you was interested in Plastic frame guns (XD9 and M&P9) until I shot my first metal frame gun.

If you haven't had the opportunity to shoot many guns see if you can before you make you choice.

And on the plus side, if you go with the CZ 75 you can get the .22LR slide for it!

You haven't told us what you expect from your pistol...your primary intended use. The quality of the responses in this thread will depend upon how well these voters can read your mind.

And one has a .22LR conversion kit, and the other doesn't. The availability of a .22LR conversion kit is a major benefit of the Glock.

I've assumed that you are focused on affordable, polymer frame, duty pistols for plinking, practice, and perhaps some competition. The Glock 19 is one if my favorite pistols, but there's no denying the fact that the STI GP6 is better suited to competition. (Depending upon your intent, the best choice may be something else.)

In addition to the Glock and the (no-magazine-disconnect version of the) S&W M&P, I suggest that you also consider the STI GP6.

I voted for the M&P because it's cheap. I would get an H&K if money is not an object. Glocks are reliable like a Honda Civic. HKs are fun and reliable like a BMW:stirthepot2:!!!
 
Any will do. Your first pistol is a learning experience more than anything else. You'll end up buying the rest of them later anyways.

How so? You should be within 10% of the price of 9mm when you buy your .40 ammo. Check SFRC for good prices or Wolf Bullets directly if you can buy 5k at a time.
 
I voted other. For just a little more you can have a Beretta or CZ 75

From your list I'd either get the M&P9 (had one great gun) or the Gen4 G17.
