First pistol???

Have you considered a Tokarev? They cost around $200, invariably come with a spare magazine, holster and cleaning rod (sometimes they also have a lanyard), and 7.62x25 Tokarev is cheap and manageable. Plus the TT-33 is based on the FN Model 1903, but internally it uses the 1911's short recoil dropping barrel link system.

Thanks for all th input guys. Its been a long time since I posted this but I decided to go whit a sam 1911 from wolverine. Great gun so far. I would have started with a .22 but my 10/22 got boring real quick if you know what I mean.
Thanks again for all the insight

9mm is a decend round to get started(if you're not a fan of .22), and a used handgun in that caliber can be had for under $400, like first Gen Glocks, or Norinco NP22 or 203(if you like cheap), etc. My first handgun was a used Taurus PT99, which cost me about $300+ (over fifteen years ago). Tauruses are awesome guns, look and function comparable to Beretta 92s.

Did you try to talk to any of your local gun store owners? They can provide you with tone of information, plus very likely you could look at some first hand.
