My selection process
When I was waiting on my PAL and trying to figure out which gun to buy, I came up with a strategy. I categorized handguns into categories. I knew that my first gun wasn’t going to be a revolver so I eliminated those all together. I divided the semi’s into steel, polymer and 1911’s. Then I looked at choices within each category. I considered the price, caliber and looks. For steel, I chose the Beretta 92fs Inox cause it’s the best looking gun out there (imho) and reasonably cheap to shoot. For polymer (my least favourite) I picked the SA XD9 cause I like it better then the glock or any other plastic pistol. Finally after careful consideration I decided that for a 1911 I want “The One”, colt .45. Having selected these three guns I needed to decide which one I was gonna buy first. Well, I couldn’t decide so.....I got all three lol. Sort of, I compromised the .45 Colt which probly isn’t a good first handgun with .22 GSG 1911, which still gave me the styling I was after but was a third of the price and super cheap ammo to shoot. I am very happy with my selection. I am still getting the .45 colt 1911 and a 357 magnum S&W revolver, when the finances are in order. It’ll be a nice collection of handguns covering all major brands, styles and calibers.
