First Powder coats!

hmm.. i always thought it was a much messier process, i'll have to look into it.

Actually when you get into it, it is not as complicated as it first appears. Because shipping is high I bought the powder version which is real easy to mix. 20 grams of powder is mixed with 100ml of acetone in a clear shaker bottle, you draw off 5ml of liquid onto 2000 grams of bullets. Shake them in a plastic container and lay them out to dry. Once dry you size them and repeat the application of 5ml of liquid., dry bake, and shoot. I did approx. 1500 bullets over the course of two days or about 2 hours of actual processing time. I`ll sit down when I have a moment and post the stuff required. Aside from the powder and acetone I probably put $20. into the stuff you need. I assume you have a dedicaated oven now.
Bayou bullets sells the powder. Donnie Miculuk, brother to Jerry is very easy to talk to and was a help to me getting started. The videos I have seen illustrate the use of powder, a catalyst and acetone. The powder only version has the catalyst already in the mix. It really is a fast and easy process.

the videos i saw where 2 part epoxy, then coating and drying 3 times then bake or something along those lines. but the powder version sounds much easier.

i can't find the powder on bayou's website? do i have to call to see what they have?

Yes that is what I did. Donnie will split your order into half pound bags if you want. I went with half of Gold and half green as in the Edmonton Eskimo colours. I didn`t ask about other colours but do know they have others. Two coatings is quite enough. I think I might even try just one. It depends on the application more than anything else I think. More does not always equate to better.

Give them a call, you will find Donnie very helpful.

I ordered it from Bayou Bullets located in Louisiana. He ships to Canada. I got mine in under 10 days.

I just got an email back from Donnie. Here are the colours he carries on hand:

Red Copper.....looks like a plated bullet.
Gold 1035
Old Gold
Brick Red
Candy Apple Red
Black Cherry
Zombie Green
Black
Black 1035 (small gold flake)

He tells me he is about to receive:
the Gunmetal Blue & Bronze 500

He takes MC and I assume Visa. Nobody in Canada carries the product yet. Ji-Tek is an Australian company and the source for this product.

I just received a lb of Phantom Glass Black from Emerald Coatings. Had a few unsized 9mm's left so I tried it out. This is a single coat:
