First range day with the 1858 Army questions

First venture into cap and ball with a Pietta 1858. I bought a used but basically new set-up that came with Dynamit Noble 1075 caps, Pyrodex pellets, lubed wads and a bunch of balls.

The first issue I had was the caps would not stay on the stock nipples without pinching them. Once the caps stayed put the remnants of the fired caps was falling into the action and took some shaking/poking to get them out. A quick search pointed towards Treso or Slixshot nipples to be the cure.

I do want to run powder as well as the Pyrodex in the future. What's the opinion on Treso vs Slixshot and where to buy them.
 
Slixshot nipples you can buy from rustywood in Mission. The slixshot nipples are good. The nipples on your revolver now are probably for no 10 caps. They are smaller. I find the real blackpowder the best to use. 3f goex or Shuetzen. Ken Stienhauer In edmonton can set you up with powder and caps.
