Here goes. I wanna reload to save money first and foremost, accuracy and tuning loads may come in later, but lets forget that for now.

I was wondering what the cheapest setup is, and is there a setup that will reload shotshells and pistol cartridges?

Sorry if these q's are REALLY stupid but I did a couple of searches and ended up finding everything but what I was looking for... Thanks all!

While in the past there were presses made that would load both shotgun and pistol (Herter No. 3 comes to mind and RCBS had one too) their absence from today's market shows just how highly they were thought of.

Someone had a Dillon Square Deal listed for a decent price (handgun dedicated fully progressive press) and someone else had a Mec 600 for shotgun listed well under the $160 retail price; both recently.

Well, I'm quite surprised nobody told you that you will not be saving any money by reloading... You will just end up shooting more rounds ;)

I've got a few friends using the LEE stuff, they are all pretty happy with it. I think Andrew (at Higgenson Powder) as a lot to do with it, excellent service and price! All my dies are Lee carbide, and I am happy with them.

If you look around, there a quite a bit of used equipment floating around that can be bought for a good price. There is not much that can go wrong with a press... if it was taken care of, it should last just about foreever.

Safe reloading,
Mike.

**edit** I just realized that you are from Ottawa... You really should go down to Hawkesbury!

I'm not sure if it's still available or not, but RCBS used to offer a 12 ga die that would thread into a Rock Chucker after the die bushing was removed. You should be able to find a used Rock Chucker for around $100.00, but even if you got the starter kit it would be cheaper than buying a shotshell loader and a metalic cartridge press. I wonder how many folks started out reloading with junk and then just gave up in disgust...I know I end up loading for some of them.
