hey guys, here's some results of some of my first reloads. I started re-loading last week for my .223 Weatherby Vanguard Varmint Special, and here are four groups.... 2- 3 shot groups, and 2- 4 shot groups. I pulled 2 of the shots in the 4 shot groups, otherwise they were pretty healthy! all shots were at 100y.

i loaded the brass with 24.3 gn of H335 under 45 gn Nosler Ballistic tip varmint, and 45 gn. Hornady V-Max.

Wow! Your off to a very good start. I have maybe two groups that went under .5 and I am just over a hundred rounds. It looks like you got a real shooter there. Thought you were going with heavier bullets than that.

i got 60 or so of the noslers in a package deal with the powder/dies/brass/primers from a dude around here tha twas moving to australia, and bought the 55 gn hornady's last weekend when i bought the Lee kit.... it was only after i got home from the city when i thought of going with heavier stuff! i'm pretty impressed with what i got here, but there was NO wind today. My heavier boolit idea was wind induced..... i still wanna build some and compare them in 15+ mph breeze. ;-)

although i do believe i really need to learn my best load, and how to work with it in the calm and in the wind. I made up a bunch of range cards/long range charts from Vortex's site to push me in the right direction. If i develop a bang on 45, or 50/55 grn load and bang away with it non stop. eventually i will hit whatever im pointing at wind, or no wind.... ;-)

but im still very curious as to how different types and weights of bullets work in different conditions! its an awesome hobby with so much to learn.

Looks like you've got a good shooter. Concentrate on the .234 group. Not because it's the smallest, but because it's the most horizontal. Your velocities around that load are probably more consistent than the vertical strings.

The 223 is just plain fun to shoot, it's a very accurate cartridge and it's so easy on the barrels that you'll probably never see the end of it.

My favorite powder in this caliber is Benchmark... but about anything up to Varget will do as fine...

Do attention to the twist of your barrel since twist over 1:9 will have a hard time to stabilize bullets over 60 grains... and sometimes less...

Terrific results, I always have gotten great results from H335, I think there is quite a bit of room for more velocity at 24.3 grs with a 45 gr bullet if that turns your crank.
