Well I took my first reloads to the range yesterday. I must say I was nervous doing the reloads, making sure everything was done right. From the data I found, I felt the loads were fine, just didn't know what to expect.
I was really happy with the results. Had two failure to feeds, assuming from an underloaded previous round.
Shooting off the rounds, has just made me feel like I'm doing things right, and a bit more confident!
Just FYI, I loaded to loads for three types of bullets. The bullets were Berry's CMJRN, Hornady FMJRN, and Hornady XTP HP all 124gr. Powder was Bullseye. Load data was from Lyman 49th 125gr Jacketd HP.

Fisrt load was 3.9gr
Average Velocity:
Berry's 1033 fps
Hornady RN 1003 fps
Hornady HP 1049 fps

Second load was 4.1gr
Berry's 1051 fps
Hornady RN 1070 fps
Hornady HP 1103 fps

Temp. was around -8 when I tested them.
Just thought I would share :)

Nice work. The first caliber I bought dies, etc for was .303, but the first caliber I actually reloaded was 30-30. 1000's of rounds later, I now smile at myself taking so long to make that first batch of 50 rounds, and when I took them out to shoot them, they all fired perfectly, but I would only load them into the gun one at a time. They were flat-nosed rounds and had a reduced load, but I still didn't want a tube mag full of them in case I had done something catastrophic. Even though I checked and re-checked every step of the reloading process... too many times.

Have fun,

Yes, I forgot - 9mm
I didn't check for accuracy, I just wanted to check the velocity to start, kind of using it as a 'pressure gauge'. I will probably do up three loadings for the ladder.
Will do up some more loads and do a ladder. Is it as critical for pistol - shooting out to 25 to 30 yds? I understand that it will make a difference in rifle - which is my next step. Have a small sampling of 223 loaded and ready to go check.

but I would only load them into the gun one at a time.

lol, I did the same thing but with a pistol. First reloads for me was for my .40. Had 3 magazines and loaded a single shot into each. Think I had a few puzzled gazes from people wondering why I was doing that. 2nd caliber I reloaded was .30-30 but I was a little bolder with the first ones. Loaded TWO, yes, TWO at once. I wanted to make sure they cycled properly :) After that I went with a fully loaded tube.

REALLY good times.

Good stuff. I still remember how nervous I was with my first reloads. Confidence builds up immediately afterwards but don't get complacent in your procedures. :)
