Guys and gals,

Bought 2 restricted firearms from the dealer. Dealer is in Manitoba I am in Alberta. They initiated the transfer on their end. Miramichi says no record of transfer initiation can be seen on their end under my RPAL. Should I not be seeing something at this point since the dealer says the initiated the transfer on their end? Or does it go to Manitoba CFO first then to Alberta CFO ?

The dealer has been amazing up to this point. So maybe they just have not put it in yet?

Clueless of the process obviously.

The dealer should have been given Referance numbers that they would give you so you can call CFO to complete the transfer - the first thing asked by CFO is " What is the Referance number".

With a dealer transfer you don't need to call in. They do get a reference number but don't need to have you call in and complete...that's only necessary for person to person transfers. That being said...if the CFC doesn't show a record of the transfer being initiated...then it didn't happen. Call the dealer and inquire what the transfer reference number is (or if they've actually started the transfer...instead of just saying they did). Also, the approval for the restricted only goes to the CFO of your province...so Alberta in this case.

Thanks for the advice. The dealer gave me the reference number called the CFO directly in AB. They told me the transfer will be done within 24 hours and they will automatically issue a LTATT. I love Alberta!

That's the beauty of AB...here in BC you'd be looking at a couple weeks for a dealer transfer (longer if person to person). Sheesh!

I guess that the problem with the CFO's being a "franchise" run differently from province to province. I feel bad for the Ontario folks. How much sense does it make in the most populated province in Canada to have people wait for a rubber stamp from their CFO for their test results? .. but hey I shouldn't criticize the government right? They know whats best /sarcasm

Why is everybody in BC waiting so long? I'm in BC and we did two transfers in October, took 4 days. I just had another one from a retailer -same thing -four days.

Dont be afraid to call your CFO. In Ontario after 5 days I called the CFO. I gave them my email and they emailed me the transfer that afternoon. Be polite and persistent.

Also in BC, had two transfers go through in 5 days with no LTATT. Called the 1 800 number out east for my LTATT, faxed them my range membership and they told me it would be emailed to me in a couple of days. I don't see what people are complaining about.
