Been a member on here for a while, figured I may as well post something already. Ive learned a lot by reading here and want to share what ive done with it. picked up my first gun off EE a little while ago and have sent about 300 rounds through it now.
Remington sps tactical, HS precision stock, 223
Got a vortex 6.5-20 for it, 20 moa rail.
I went out with it a couple times trying different ammo, every kind i could find in 223 locally, trying to keep it to varmint rounds. The hornady Vmax 55gr shot well as did the federal blue box, but I seemed to lack consistency off a bipod. So i built this.
This has helped me find the type of ammo my gun prefers so I can develop a base line in order to improve my shooting abilites. I went out today with a box of hornady Vmax 55gr, federal 55gr sp, fusion 62gr soft point and hornady Vmax 55gr moly coated to shoot some 5 rd groups.
The fusion performed the worst... I know I have a long way to go in terms of technique but the rest I built has made it a lot easier for me to achieve better groups. I figured this ammo may work well given the weight of the projectile vs the 9in. twist of my barrel. Not so. 1in group at 100yd, 4in group at 200yd and 5in at 250yd.
The federal 55gr was 2in at 100yd, 3.75in at 200yd and at 250yd.
The Vmax 55gr was 1.25in at 100yd, 2.25 at 200yd and 2in at 250
The Vmax moly was something I picked up by mistake, didnt pay enough attention to the box, but it was a good mistake... .75in at 100yd, 2.75 at 200yd and I managed sub 1.5 at 250yd... with 4 shots, one i dont want to talk about.
