hello everyone, as a new member i am asking for some recommendations for a scope for my rifle. I currently have a Rem 700PCR in 6.5 creedmoor. The long term plan for the rifle is Hunting but currently want to take it to the range and shoot at some target for practice. Any help or information would be appreciated. Please
Just note that I am a first generation gun owner and trying to learn/take in as much as I can so I don’t want to start off with a over complicated scope. Thanks for your time and any information

I'm a fan of Redfield or Votex. The warranties are excellent but I've heard some negatives about Vortex quality. I had one that wouldn't hold zero, sent it back, and they sent me an upgraded one that has preformed flawlessly on my .308. If you have the money, you can't go wrong with Leupold but given the Chinese fakes out there, make sure you buy one from a reliable source. I'd stay away from budget optics. In my experience, you get what you pay for, and with cheap glass you just end up spending more money on an upgrade down the road. That said, there are some good deals on the equipment exchange where shooters have decided to upgrade from good optics to higher end glass. Good luck to you.

Leupold is the scope I would recommend. I have several Vortex scopes as well and had no problems but some shooting friends haven't been so lucky.

For a beginner, Leupold Mark AR or Redfield Tac/MOA. When you get used to dialling and are consistently making hits at distance, then you’re ready to upgrade to the $1k+ club for optics. I recommend Nightforce after that.

For scopes.

Spend as much as you are willing. You can always use it on another rifle later on.

Vortex has a wonderful Warranty and covers accidents (nice peace of mind)

For hunting - don't go high magnification or too heavy. It is easier to hunt with a lower powered scope. (Depending on where you hunt)

See if you have someone knowedgable and experienced to guide you. But remember it is your gear, so your decision.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I would get a Leupold in either a 3-9x VX2 or a 3.5-10x VX3.

They can be found on the used market for a very reasonable price, glass is good, they’re tough as nails and have a lifetime warranty.

For hunting that 3-10x range is about perfect, and for target shooting it will suffice.

A leupold scope will darn near last forever, when you’re ready to upgrade to a better target scope you can move the leupold to a different hunting rifle.

I like the Vortex line of scopes. They are reasonably priced have lifetime warranty. Buy what you can afford but remember better glass is never a wasted purchase.
