First "rifle"?

Hey guys,

The dreaded question of a rifle I can use for hunting and long range shooting (if possible)? Only interested in 308. Was looking at the new Savage Ghost but don't want to wait 60 days lol.
What is out there and wgat should a guy look for, can't spend a crap load on it but already have a Vortex 4-16x PST to through on it.

Unless told otherwise I'll probably grab a Savage 10TR and call it a cheap day.

New to buying not new to shooting have shot everything from a 22 to a 338 Lapua(to much now that I'm in Ontario and the vast plains of Alberta are behind me). Recoil is not a huge deal but don't need a light/short barreled 308 kicking the crap out of me all day either.

They are brand new Frontier Arms was promoting them. They look identical to the Mossberg MVP LC but with a FAB defense stock instead of the Magpul.

Budget I'll say under 2k would be nice (Gun only). Not expecting to win anything with it just a good long range gun that isn't so heavy I can't take it in the bush.

It is Savage arms 10/110 Ghost. They are coming in 308,6.5,300win and 338 Lapua the ad is under the frontier arms section. You can also find them on you tube from shot show. As mentioned was told 30-45 days till released in the states and about 60 for us.
 
Ohh no kidding ? I'm gonna check it out . What does the 'ghost ' name refer to? Like a 10/110 with ghost sights ?

You mean the Stealth? At any rate a shorter barrel only gives up velocity. It won't beat you up or deafen you. Unless you shoot without hearing protection in which case you're deafening yourself, rifle choice only affects how soon you'll have that constant ring in your ears. FWIW I shoot with another CGN'er and his Mossberg MVP patrol in .308 w/16.5" barrel and Griffin flashcomp is quieter than my 22" .30-06. I've shot it with a couple different muzzle devices and stocks, with the A2 flash hider and synthetic stock it was pretty tame. With flashcomp and Fab recoil reducing stock it hardly has any felt recoil. Less than a short bbl .223. It launches 168 ttsx at 2550 fps and took a cow elk this past fall.

Yes the Stealth 10BA sorry my bad! Still looks really nice and sounds like a blueprinted Savage 10TR in a MDT frame.

I wear double ear pro, Surefire plugs and amplification muffs. No issues firing the big boys with that. My Dad was a brass caddy at long range competitions when he was a kid. Everyone shot 303's and shooters and kids no ear pro, dad can here regular levels fine anything hi pitched or higher frequency nothing lol. Amazing how far we have come, he's 65 now. I don't even operate a chainsaw without ear pro never mind a gun, even hunting I atleast wear my plugs or muffs one of the two.
