First scope, what kind of mount should I get for an AR10?

I've always used red dots and holographic sights but I am picking up an AR10 soon and plan on mounting an actual rifle scope on it. I have absolutely no idea about scopes at all but after doing a lot of researched I've decided on what scope to get but have no idea what kind of mount I should be getting for it.

The scope I'm getting will be the Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40mm and I'm thinking of picking a cantilever mount but the prices range from dirt cheap to insanely expensive and I don't know which to go for and if the less expensive mounts will be alright for an AR10.

The mounts I have my eye on currently are:
Nikon Sport - M-223 Mount for AR-Platform Rifles, 1" - $85
Vortex 1" Sport Cantilever Mount with 2" Offset - $140

I’ve used a few diff mounts, and they’ve all worked fine.

My 2 favs are Aero Precision light weight mounts and American Defence

ahh im liking the idea of the aero precision light, is saskatoongunworks the only place that sells them? would prefer to have one in FDE but seems like they only have the black ones

I have a Warne Xskel mount.....but it's ~$200. And you already have some more budget-oriented mounts that will probably do what you need them to do

I've used ADM and Vortex/ADM scout mounts. Both solid and decent repeatability with zero. I would say most cantilevers will be within 1/2 MOA. I kept one on my 223 with 1-4 power scope but on a 308 that you want pretty good accuracy out of.. qd isn't the best choice.

I would get proper mounts. MDT just put out some new tactical rings. I may be biased towards Canadian MFGs tho..

I'm using one of Richard Near's Alpha mounts on my MATEN build

a.) why would qd not be the best choice?
b.) I own both qd and non-qd. the function of qd has not impaired accuracy from sphur or china-grade burris pepr that i use.
c.) Why did you type "1/2 MOA" as a unit of measure. What are you measuring?

examples: i flopped off my accupower in qd sphur the otherday, fired on some irons, then remounted the optic to see if i retained zero. i was within or under .2 mils at 200 meters.
examples 2: completely replaced my fclass badger steel rings with qd sphur mount. I have photographic evidence of 1 hole groups (as is norm from remple rifles).

I have not tested non-unimounts. However, if my scope breaks and I don't have the crazy 13mm or what have you tools, why would having a few qd scopes around be any kind of disadvantage? especially since i'm usually able to re-zero a scope in under or around 8 rounds (approx. sometimes less, sometimes more.)

A- OP is looking for budget mounts. Your SPUHR QD is of Alpha quality.. I'd like to see the same test from your PEPR. Not saying it's impossible but tolerances aren't as consistent.

C- Repeatability, unless you spend good money on your QD, you're gambling with this. I've had it go both ways. One good mount I kept on my 223, other was given to a buddy for his 22.

Probably safe to use a cheapy on a bench gun but for an AR that may be bumped and knocked around, not for me.

I'm not against cantilevers, I read OPs post and understood that he was budget conscious. I feel there's better value in the MDT rings.

Just my opinion, friend

Depending on the eye relief of the scope, most can be mounted with just regular rings on a AR10 sized rifle, no need for a cantilevered mount. On smaller AR15 sized rifles a cantilever mount is almost always required for proper eye relief with a scope.

You have a Vortex Scope .... why not keep the same brand on the mount ?
