hey all,

Ive had my licence and a couple of guns for a few years now and now im looking to get somthing that i can go out have a little more fun with.

A friend of mine has recently bought a SKS and its great fun, but im looking for one with more of a "modern" look to it.

as far as i can tell from the rcmp website is that as long as it is semi-auto, the barrell is over 18.5" and its overall legenth is no less then 26" - im good to go. but then it gets into a whole list of restricted m-16's and any variant of it, wich is the "modern" look im going for.

any info you guys can send me would be great, or any reccomendations you have for wich one i should get.

thanks

Buy a pawnshop 10/22, add a Tapco stock and a 16" Dlask Barrel w/ flash hider of your choice... Bob's your Uncle!

Look into a CZ 858, with the 18.5" barrels they're non-restricted, have detachable magazines as well as many aftermarket accessories and options. They also eat up the cheap surplus 7.62x39 rounds like there's no tomorrow.

I don't own one, but have tried them and they are tons of fun. :D

Getting one is on the top of my list after a handgun of some sort (haven't decided on one yet).

SKS or a .22 like a Ruger 10/22 would be your best bet as they are both dirt cheap to shoot. Spend $350 on an SKS with 1100 rounds and when you have shot that dry you still have a great rifle. Then you can move up to the unrestricted Robinson Arms XCR, Swiss Arms Classic, or a Tavor.

Nope. Only the AR-15 is named as a restricted firearm. As long as the barrel length is over 18.5 inches and the design is not named as prohibited or restricted, any other semi auto black rifle available in Canada is non-restricted
Actually, there are a bunch of black rifle .22s that, other than resembling an AR , have nothing in common with an AR15, but the RCMP has arbitrarily declared them an AR variant. (This is being appealed in court right now)

wow, thats for all the info guys.

i dont really have a prefrence as to wich caliber i shoot, but somthing with a litte more bang then a .22.

i think its coming down to the CZ or the M14, ill have to see how much cash is avalible when the time comes. A little more info on a m14 would be great if anyone has some (where to buy, restrictions, $$), it may be worth to save up a little more cash to get it.

also, if you guys have any info on custom stocks for the 10/22 i already own one and may want to do that anyways.

thanks again

If your main use will be hunting then, I would say a Browning Bar, Ruger Mini-30 or Remington woodsmaster. Assault rifles get some weird looks at a hunt camp.

I own a norinco m14 a norinco sks and a ruger 10/22. IMO the sks is the best bang for the buck and it comes with me to the range more often then all my semi autos. The m14 is very expensive to shoot. Here is a pic of my sks which looks very "modern". I also think the CZ 858 is a great choice but have no experience with it. I do know it will cost you a few hundred dollars more in stock form then my sks cost with all the mods.
