First semi Auto Shotgun question.

It's basically a spare for waterfowl hunting, but it will see some use shooting skeet when it rains. It's actually my third SX-3. After handling the SX-4, I decided to get a spare, while there were still some SX-3s available.
Besides the preferences between the two you had mentioned, I don’t think you can go wrong with either model.

Just went through this myself and in the end, decided on a lightly used SX-3 off the equipment exchange. It's hard to find anything but outstanding reviews on them. Reviews on the SX-4 on forums and on the Randy Wakeman site are less than flattering. I suspect that is largely because they are being compared to the SX-3, which has become an all time classic.

Shims definitely help to fine tune, but some guns still fit better than others.

Agree 100%. I couldnt shim a Beretta, Benelli, Franchi or Stoeger enough to fit as well my Browning Silver does right out of the box. Yes, shims do help, but they are not perfect. My Mossberg 935 had a similar issue. I had to combine 2 drop shims in an attempt to replicate the fit of my Browning Silver. Its much more shootable for me, but still not as good as the fit of my Silver

My SX-3s are as they came out of the box, except for one spacer added on the recoil pad, no matter how I shimmed my A400, it just didn't feel quite right. My SBE2 was close, but not quite as comfortable. I preferred the higher rib on the SX-3 , and I liked the stepped rib on the SE2 the least. I shot two rounds of doubles skeet with each gun, and I broke two or three more targets with the SX-3, than with the A400.
