I'm looking into to buying my first auto loading shotgun and don't know much about them at all. I've owned several pumps. Which do you prefer? I'm looking into either the 930spx or the versa max. And it's pretty much for range and I would also like to start learning 3 gun with it. I don't have much of a budget. Would either of those work for what I need it for?

930 is more proven. I'm sure the Versamax would work as well.

You could probably get a used Rem 1100 or 11-87 which is probably going to be better finished, but you have to replace the O-rings.

I have a Versa Max Tactical and haven't had a problem with it mainly shooting slugs and buckshot, from reduced recoil 2 3/4" slugs up to full power 3" it just doesn't stop until it is empty. It has excellent recoil pads, one on the butt and one where your cheek rests on the stock, even the 3" slugs don't seem bad for recoil.

I've heard great things about the versamax tactical and have been looking at one. However a friend in the u.s. who owned one said it was a nightmare, I think it may have been one of the earlier models not the tactical that he owned. It also may have more to do with quality control issues than anything which remington has had an issue with recently. It's a tad bit heavy so like silverback said it has very little recoil.

you can't go wrong with either...but I do love my VMT. No issues. Handles cheap and expensive stuff.

already comes /w an extension tube, but you will need to remove (dremel/drill) the washer out blocking it, so you could go 6 x 2 3/4" in the tube (blocked of course).

Really, both are fantastic performers.

The only thing that should be a deciding factor is whether you like a crossbolt safety mounted near the trigger guard or a thumb operated safety on the back of the receiver.

I chose the 930 just because of ergonomics and I am about to enter a very exclusive Benelli club, but that's a new thread later on :)

Did you say a semi shot for 3 gun on a budget? I bought the Hatsan MPA-TS. For what you get in 'gun' for $500 you cant beat it. And as far as quality goes, I would put it up against the Rem any day. Look it up, its well worth it.

We have a couple of the semi auto Hatsans in stock.

They can be found here on the website.

We've sold a number of them and only heard extremely positive feedback on them.

I really like the fact that they come ready to go with sights, rails etc.

We do have some of the Versa Max arriving soon as well and I love the one I handled.

mossy 930....or better yet...935. the 935's throw one of the best shot patterns and have a reduced felt recoil due to their 10g barrel diameter. And you'll get a 3.5" gun if the need ever arises for that shell size
