First shooting of the Lee Real bullet

Not so great, 6" groups. Didn't spend much time out, too damned cold. Much work to do.

I was using 85grains of 777. I'll have to chronograph that at some point. I had some FFG black with me, but my hands were too numb, so I didn't get to it.

Anyway, those shots were unlubed, so as I already mentioned, lots to play with. I am reading that a cardboard wad can make a difference too, but i've yet to try it.

Anyone with experience?

Lube will help, but in the cold it doesn't wanna work so well

Alox and a cushion under the bullet worked for me

I thought they were trash. Very inaccurate in the .54 I had. Even though it was a 1-66, minie balls worked great but not those.

I was going to use some lube I got in a tube, but the damned stuff was too cold to squeeze out.
If I try again this winter I'll pre-lube a batch. I need to come up with a .50 wad cutter too. Might just sharpen a piece of pipe.

I liked them - sold the setup a long time ago but the .54 cal 380 grain slab of lead was reliable at "minute of deer heart angle" accuracy out to about 150. I was never really a purist, though - I used (gasp) pyrodex... Turns out I was overloading but the deer never complained. Lubed with "bore butter" and a squeeze-on lubricator thingy that screwed onto the end of the bore-butter tube. Only worked at "room" temperature (room - stored in an interior pocket for about 20 minutes before using it) - the lube wouldn't flow at cooler temps...
