I ust got my first shotgun from EE. Remingon 870 Wingmaster. I did trap with it last weekend and ran some slugs through for practice. Slugs will take deer, it handled trap fine and the barrel is threaded for chokes so turkey is no problem.

My cousin says pump is not the "proper" action for trap and skeet, but my opinion is it throws lead and cracks clays. I'll be out for trap with it again this weekend.

Since you are close to GTA, Bass Pro has the Remington 870 Express on sale till May 5 for $299. At that price, you get a decent beginner do everything shotgun and save money for shells.

What is ur budget?... As an all around gun I would choose a beretta a400 if it meets ur budget requirements... I have had 3 and they are all great for what u want to do!... U can pm me if u want my input on semi-autos as I've owned quite of few in the past 2 years... Hope it helps

You will have no complaints aboit an 870. I own a newer 3.5" and a 25 year old 3" and honestly have never had a single issue.I have shot very expensive and 30 year old junk and she handled it flawlessly.

get an auto when your first gun. It takes time to learn ,fast and good, on a pump. O/U's are great for skeet and trap. Auto does everything with screw in chokes!!

If you on a tight wallet you could look at a mossburg they have packages with a slug barrel, but I would suggest spending a bit more and going with the 870 way beter value for your buck.

Browning Auto-5. You can get a fantastic 2-3/4" chambered gun for around $400, around $600 for a 3" model. However, you won;t go wrong with a nice 870 Wingmaster.

Hey guys thanks for all the input. Ive heard that the new 870s arnt that good or just cheaply made. Id be interested in a browning 5 auto bu my pruce range. What are everyobe opions on the mossberg 500 or 535 with the 3 barrel combo???
Thanks again eveyone

I think the 870 is a great place to start. Small investment, and allows you to get into the sport and figure out what direction you want to go and where to invest bigger money down the road. You can also buy a few different barrels for it, a rifled slug barrel and a turkey barrel.

If u want something really cheap, reliable, and versatile, I'd go with a mossberg 500 with 2 barrels. The long barrel is great for trap and birds, and the short one is good for packing when you're out fishing, hiking etc. I'm not sure if they make a rifled slug barrel or not... I'm not an expert, but I have a few buddies that have them and are happy with them.

Ya i have a buddy that has one also he loves it im just split on that a mossberg or a 870 lol the 870 is alot cheaper but cheaper aint always best ive found lol

have you looked at the Browning BPS, never read a bad review on them, every person I know that has one swears by them, fantastic build quality, ultra reliable, top tang safety and bottom eject are awesome, and you can pick up a new BPS Hunter for under $600, and it's a Browning :)

You will get many different opinions on this brand vs that brand, and it's the same as a chev vs ford argument. For a lower cost, more entry level shotgun, a mossberg 500 or rem 870 are hard to beat. Like it's been said, you can find combos that will have a smooth barrel, rifled barrel and sometime security, so it lets you do more with a single gun.
If you have a bit more of a budget something like a binelli or beretta etc will be more refined, nicer, better quality, but you pay a premium for it, so it depends on what you plan to do with it and how much you want to spend.
I don't have much experience with auto shotguns, so i will leave the pump vs auto vs O/U to the other guys.

There are a lot of good choices available nowadays, a lot can depend on your budget, but you can't go wrong with a 870, or a Benelli .
