First snowfall is gonna be tonight !!!!! Yeeehaaaaa!

Any of you guys have any thoughts on snowfall and deer, or rabbits, etc etc and movement and so on. I know I would always get rabbits in my slips when it snowed. Some say a full moon, but that was never my luck.

Geese should really get going now !!!:sniper::dancingbanana:

Snowed here last night....was nice to get out in the mountains today.....about 4-6 inches up high but a total bluebird day....it couldn't have been nicer.

Snow down means changing tactics and species.

I'll hunt ducks first, then geese when they're off the grass, and into the corn.

Bow for Deer when it turns colder, It does get them moving, even though deer is open now, I'm waiting.

Was out squirrel hunting yesterday while watching duck flights, and nothing was moving, except a flock of 120 geese after legal light.
It was in the mid 20's here yesterday.

Then gun season for deer.:runaway:

With snow you can see the small game and birds better, not to mention coyotes and deer, if you're lucky to have snow during you're season..:D

What were the temps like?

When I first moved to the mountains and did mountain hiking, hunting, etc..
I was so amazed at the powder. I had been accustomed to heavy wet snow that gave you biceps like Hulk Hogan after a winter of shoveling.

I remember once we had a snowfall that was so steady , and the night was so calm, ans it was so so cold. I didn't really respect that crisp cold powder until a light breeze picked up. Zero visibility in seconds.

I love a light dusting of snow for hunting... but not a big fan of snow mornings and melting afternoons in the bush,...

What were the temps like?.

They are usually just below freezing by night but get warm by day and the snow often melts by day up until early Dec.

That's when the rabbit hunting starts for me.
Last year was a freak winter, we got a lot of snow fast and it stayed, so for me anyways, the cottontails were hard to find.:(
Could have been a poor year for rabbits?, I'll never know?

This summer, I'm seeing cottontails splashed and painting the highways(road kill) everywhere:(

Good sign for me that the numbers are up.:)

It was -11 when we left home this morning and about +2 during the afternoon...not a cloud in the sky! Great day to be alive.....and boning sheep out!

Canada is a big place - just where might that be?

Snow ? What's that ? It's pouring buckets here ! No snow yet ! nononononnononononono, but ! I do find the critters tend to move more after a first snow , mostly early am and around 2pm -5 pm in the afternoon, getting progressively later towards the end of rifle season (mid dec here) Wolf activity picks up dramatically after a first snow too, prob because everything starts moving around more.

I love this time of year !! I can't decide if I should go out for trophy walleye at Last Mountain Lake, pheasant near the US Border or muzzleload for whitetail and Mulie bucks :D

Cheers!!

i tend not to like this time of year because all the animals seem to get really stupid, i've killed more wildlife with my car then ill ever kill with any of my guns combined. and its all been from now until spring.
