This is the similar confusión I had with my 40S&W load when I saw different ranges from my hornady manual and hodgon manual. after consulting here, I decided to go with hornady as it's lighter and eventually got good results.
I think the rule of thumb is that don't over or below the limit, then you can start low and go up. the worst case with TOO low is slide doesn't recycle properly and round stuck. So, just carefully shoot one round at a time, then you are fine. NEVER go above the upper limit though unless you are looking for +P and with all the right components and know-how. So, in a nutshell, both récipes are right, you have to try and get what you want/need for your gun(s).

hodgdon's reloading site says 3.6-4.1 but then campro says 4.1-4.4gr
its definitely a bit confusing.
