First time AR15 buyer

Hello all
Considering an AR15. Narrowed it down to a Daniel Defense Carbine M4 V3.

My want list was:

• Reputable manufacturer.
• Maximum 16” barrel.
• Triangle front sight/bayonet lug with room for a bayonet i.e. mid-length forearm rail.
• Railed fore end.
• Under $ 2,000.00

This seems to be the only rifle that fits with in the budget.

Anyone know of anything else available that fits the bill?

Lots of options there I did not know about. Thank you! Looks like Stag arms & Core make a similiar rifle to what I'm looking for with the exception of the midlength gas system in the 16" barel. As nice as LMT rifles are they do not offer a mid length gas system with a 16" barrel and a triangle front sight post/bayonet lug type rifle. Can a Triangle type front sight post be added to any rifle?
 
I'll take some heat for this but so be it.

My first AR is a Norinco.

It was cheap. Thought I could learn how to look after (and deal with all kinds of problems) and run it. But it has run flawlessly so far.

The original price will allow for mods to spiff it up.

Just a thought...... I got the 10.5" barrel.

I like the simplicity of the A2 front site/bayonet type. Don't really care so much about the bayonet just thought at least if a lug is there it should be fuctional. Like that it won't move & I plan on shooting with open sights. Thought for open sight shooting the A2 front site/bayonet type was best. Really though I do not know as I have no AR15 experince with out optics.....thought simple was better.

I wouldn't worry about the bayonet lug. If the zombies get that close you're pretty much hooped anyway. ;) AR15's with low profile gas blocks and rail systems work great for flip-down sights, as well. Good luck in your quest!

lol....thanks Blaxsun......I'm not. It is interesting hearing these comments as it leads me to believe I should just buy a high end rifle right off the bat. So complicated. Might just get a KA SR15 instead and be done with it. At least I would not wonder if I could have made a better decission! I wanted simple & functional. i.e. no building a rifle and reputable manufacturer. I looked into your recommendation and a rail mounted non-folding type front sight really opens up my options. Folding front sights seem like a good choice if you plan to run optics though, which I do not for now. Thanks for the help!

Np. Well, the good news is that there are a lot of reputable manufacturers for ARs (both direct impingement and piston). On the high-end, Noveske, KAC and HK are the ones that stick-out in my mind. You can also look at some mid-range (in terms of price) ARs, such as LMT, PWS and Adcor. In terms of the lower-range, you have Stag, Daniel Defense, Spike's Tactical and probably a few others that escape me at the moment.

In terms of DI ARs, probably Noveske and KAC. If you're looking for a piston setup, I would recommend PWS or Adcor (these are actually a few hundred dollars less, and offer really good value).

Since you indicated you don't plan to run optics (although an Aimpoint T1 RDS is a slick setup!) - my sole recommendation would be the Troy M4.
 
I don't know if this is something that would interest you or not, but I just finished the same search you are doing. I started at the NEA, pre-ordered the Daniel Defense, the had to cancel because of a crappy tax audit. While I was on the hunt though I came across Milarm in Edmonton and HERA Arms. They were able to package and build a 14.5 using the HERA Arms completer Upper/Lower combo with a DPMS barrel and BCG. The HERA linear comp, and the HERA 15" quad rail. Yup, I said it, 15" rail on a 14.5 barrel. With that comp it was looks pretty sweet. Check out HERA Arms website. They even make a slab side receiver without the forward assist. I think it was under 1900. The only downfall was a basic car stock on the combo, but they can do whatever you want. 2 week lead time. The Daniel Defense is still like 3-4 months out. Hope that helps.
