Just wanted to say, I went out Duck Hunting for the first time last weekend. I had such a blast! up at 3:00am to get ready and be out for the blind draw at 4:30am. Got out to blind via canoe, set up decoys. Head to shore, jump out of the canoe, and end up knee deep in mud and water (no wadders of course). Spent the rest of the day, with my foot in my gun sock trying not to freeze. Spent most of the day missing anything and everything that flew near us. Ducking sure ain't trap! Ended the day with 3 ducks and a goose. Had an absolute blast and can't wait to get a chance to go again. First time cleaning any game, and happy to say no problems there. I know that this is likely old news to most here, and that there is all ready a thread for stuff like this, but I really wanted to let everyone what a great time I had and thank the person who took me with him.

Welcome! Hey, old/new doesn't really matter, most folks can relate to such narrative. Looks like you had a great time......despite the gunsock part, LOL!

Usually takes a while to get your feet wet waterfowling. ;)

Sounds like you did great!

Three ducks and a goose first time out? Yahoo!

I lost track of the number of skunk trips I made before starting to connect.

But I never shot trap or skeet before hunting ducks.

man... i'm in ur shoes... the only difference is that went out a dozen times to get 3 ducks :)))
congrats and good luck for both of us

Going out with experienced waterfowlers probably saved you a couple of years of frustration. Got into ducking 10 years ago when I got my lab, we both learned a ton that first year. The more you read and take in from experienced waterfowlers, the more you appreciate the sport and more success you will have.

As the years pass, we have gone from being happy to shoot any duck or goose, to only shooting at decoying birds.

It's an addictive sport, be prepared to break the wallet on all the toys that go along with it. Each toy will help you bring in more birds and help your overall set up and confidence.

Have fun with it, and it only gets better late in the season when your breaking ice. Fewer hunters out and more birds around.
