Hey all

I will be participating in my first F-class event next month with the ORA. I'll be shooting a box stock Rem XCR in 308. I already have my dope to 1000 yards thanks to a couple of practice sessions.

Looking for advice on gear/equipment to bring, rests to use (allowed), gear to leave home.

Any tips that would be useful/helpful to a newbie would be greatly appreciated.

My advice would be invest in a minimum of equipment right now, and if you can borrow that would be so much the better. You will learn a TON from this session. The ORA boys do a great job with their FM class. Use the opportunity to see for yourself what tools everyone else uses before you commit to spending money on what you think you might need.

Congrats on making the plunge!! I hope we get to meet up at a future match!

I use the following:

Caldwell BR ROCK front pedestal rest with appropriate feet for the terrain.
protecktor front and rear bags
Shooting mat - foam interlocking squares
Ammo
Eye and ear protection - hat/cap?
paper and pen to right score on
Towel, and bottle of water.
sunscreen, bug spray depending on the time of year and where you will be shooting
basic tools and scope data.
Spotting scope and RayVin base - a new addition and I really don't use it that much

That's what I bring to the line.

The other supplies, tools, food, crying towel, BS bags and other bottles of cheer, those are in the truck.

Make sure you have a basic tool kit as well with any allen wrenches, torx bits etc.. you may need to tighten or re-adjust your scope, action etc...Rain gear is also a good one, be prepared for any weather.

Beware though, once you start hitting those V-bulls, you will NOT want to stop :)

depending on the range, you may need to hoof your stuff to various firing lines so a cart/buggy/stuff hauler is a good idea.

I found a fold up grocery cart with a cloth liner. tons of room and the wheels should be big enough for grass. maybe not Vanc wet grass though - only one way to find out.

I really focus on only having what I need to shoot. Extra stuff just makes it more of a pain to move around. I definitely don't pack cleaning stuff with me - that is in the truck.

But basic tools to tighten every part on your rifle and maybe something to knock out a stuck case are good ideas.

The cart thing is definitely something I want to look into, especially for lugging rests and bags around.

I lot of the guys seem to have neat folding rickshaw type cars with bicycle wheels, they will roll over anything.

Does anybody have an idea where a fella can find one of those for sale?

Bring your rig and ammo and an open mind. See what the guys use and take it from there.

I have a spare front rest and back bag if you need it, just confirm the date that you will be shooting.

Thanks Bob, I have a Caldwell front and a rear bag too. The front should help as the "recessed thumb hook" in the XCR stock limits bag placement to rear of the stock, meaning I need more front elevation or else shoot into the dirt :)

Looks like October 9 (the Saturday). Big family holiday commitments on the Sunday.

Bring something to sit on that is easy to haul around.

Don't chug a Rockstar / Redbull before your first shoot.

If you have a bipod (harris, or clone, etc), you might wat to bring it along to try. I much prefer shooting of that, then a fron trest, unless the stock is designed to ride the front rest.

Mons championship is a great shoot, nice and relaxed.

I will bring a F class front rest and a bipod for you.

Do you need a mat and plot sheets?
