Some pics from my first grouse hunt in about 35 years, and his first time ever. We were hunting near Britt Ont. We got 4 grouse and 2 squirrels. It was a great day. He was using a Remington 597 with a scope. I was using my wife's old Stevens 410-22LR O/U. I was using Winchester 3" #6 shells - they worked excellent. We will be going back there before the season closes at the end of the month. We did see some rabbit tracks, but bugs bunny sis not make an appearance. The weather cold and sunny. Not a bad way to spend a day.

What a great day to be in the outdoors...
Myself I have this aversion to standing so close to the tracks, but we have shot some nice roosters along the tracks.
Great feast for dinner tonight.
Thanks for sharing.

Looks like a fun day, trains, hiking around in the snow shooting grouse. What’s not to love about that!

We had a great time. I would hold up a grouse when a train would go by and get a thumbs up from the engineer. the first train scared the hell out of me. They are quite quiet until they are on top of you!

Thanks. We saw some tracks going up and down the rail line, and set up beside the tracks. No birds were seen. My friend found a lot about 50 meters away in a small clearing. We would shoot one or 2 and they would leave for a while and come back.

Looks like a great day out, grouse hunting in the snow is bliss for me. Love the Stevens 22-410. My grandfather’s was passed to my dad, skipped me and passed to my kid. He lets me use it though ;)

It is a great little gun! The #6 shot was on target at about 20 meters. Grouse was dead in about 10 seconds.

Hence the adage of "Anytime is Train Time".
I had a co-worker struck by train in White Rock (near 10k steps) and she and her b/f lived to tell about it.
That train was traveling at a reduced speed of about 45kmh at the time.
Still no snow here in metro Vancouver and I thank you again for the pics.

Upland hunting at it's finest. Thanks for posting.

Thank you. It was a great day. The grouse was excellent. I like to cook it in a pan of butter with a little olive oil, garlic and salt and pepper. Bush chicken is great. My wife has never had it before and she thought it was chicken.
