So took the mosin out for the first time on the weekend. It went ok.
Initial impressions are:
1. the firing pin protrusion tool is VITAL
2. Kicks like a mule
3. is accurate for a very old rifle
Ran into some light primer strike issues(like on 30% of ammo I tried to fire) as my rifle didn't come with a tool to check firing pin protrusion tool so I just winged it when reassembling my bolt, turns out that was a bad idea. Took it to a buddies after who has a few mosins and he disassembled my bolt and set the correct firing pin protrusion which looks to be about a full mm or 2 farther than I had it set. Hopefully that takes care of the light primer strikes.
My shoulder is bruised, no recoil pad and me shooting with no shirt on was probably not the smartest thing I could have done, Metal butt plate direct to skin + kickback from 7.62x54R = OUCH. So I have a limbsaver slip on pad on order.
Also cheap aluminum 3/8 dovetail scope mounts are useless, 2nd shot came loose so I pulled off scope while in the field shooting and reinstalled rear factory leaf sight, good thing I was smart enough to bring it and the pins with me. Used the bolt to hammer the pins back in lol.
Am looking into some quality STEEL rings now.
Shot multiple 2" groups off the hood of my 4runner at 120 yards with the irons.
My new least favorite sound, CLICK..... not followed by a BANG.
