They've all been shot so don't have the box or the brass.
Supposed to be going to the range tomorrow, hope to try the factory 357mag HP and see if any difference. Will hopefully get my friend to shoot it, then film...
Note that revolvers pretty much require a different hold and trigger finger placement than semis. You want the trigger to rest in the folds of your last finger joint rather than out towards the pad on the tip like with many semis......

Ok, so I brought some lead 158g 38spcl, reloaded 158g 357mag and PMC 150g HP 357 to see the difference. Here is my 6" 686 dwarfing my HK USP 40 (a large semi-auto):

PMC factory case is slightly taller than reloaded case:

(Excuse the dust on my stereo!)
The factory ammo was way louder, actually scared me the first time I shot it. More recoil, less flash. The reloaded ammo had a big flash, but less bang and recoil. The factory ammo had more recoil than my HK with HP ammunition. The reloaded 357's recoil felt similar to the HK.
I find 357 to be very manageable in a heavy 686. I'm sure the other guys with the short barrels have more felt recoil, due to lesser weight and a shorter barrel.
So you guys were right, the reloaded ammo I thought was hot, was just a mild/medium power, flamethrower round. The PMC is the real deal. Biggest difference was the LOUDNESS! Hurt my ears with plugs & muffs.
not dwarfing at all, looks the same size to me.
that being said, my hottest reloads can't seem to get up to factory 357. using 158grn SWC with 15 gr of w296.
